Title: Fingers Crossed!!!
Post by: Sideways17 on February 20, 2011, 06:34:47 PM
I found an 03 YZ125 in northwest Indiana that I may scoop up! It needs a cylinder but everything else seems to be intact! I am planning on throwing a 144 kit in it. Hes asking 1100 for it. I may see if he'll take $900 if I drive the 2.5hr one way trip to pick it up! Does that sound fair for both of us?

I just found out the motor is in pieces. Its basically stock, he doesn't have time to mess with it anymore. What would you guys do?

I am always worried when someone else takes things apart. ::)
Make sure everything is there. The last thing you need is to replace lost parts

The bike here in Ca is only worth 1200 running, so I wouldn't give anymore than 700 here.

I found a couple 2001 RM125's for 1500 and 1700. That seems high to me? What would you pay for this year RM 125?

It all depends on where you live. I always see posts like these, and cringe.
In VA I buy bikes all the time, cheap. A few months ago I picked up a 96 and 97 RM 125, $500 for both. 95 YZ 250 $200.
I'm picking up a 2001 YZ 125 today for $600.
Shop around. :)

I live in northern illinois. Do you find most of your deals on craigslist?

Yeah, I get 99% of them from Craigslist. I live in a very 2-stroke rich area though. :)

Lucky! I've read a lot of the posts on this forum and ya'll really have me wanting a 125. I think it will really be a blast at the tracks I ride. (KI tracks, Byron Moto Park and a buddies personal SAND track!))

LOL not for me. My 16 year old nephew has outgrown his 80 and people around here think 125's are made of gold or something.

I would never buy a 5 speed 125, who ever came up with that concept should be shot.  125s need 6 gears, period.  If you are riding off road, same for 250s.

there hasnt been a track in my life i've been to i've heard of any1 hitting 6th gear. Dont get me wrong i'm sure its happened i've just never done, seen, or heard of it.

6th. is mostly for beachrace, open roads, or desert IMO.
I'm in the market for a 300 Enduro next year, and at this moment i really miss a
sixt speed on the TM300 EN. That's the only thing holding me back from it.
But for on a MX track, you probably won't get to 6th.
Perhaps some prefer them over a 5 speed because of the closer ratio spacings.
But every 125/144 is fun on the track. For some tracks here, a 250 is already too big to
fully enjoy it the most. Beiing able to go full throttle on a small bore 2t is great amusement!

The 2003 Yz125 (my bike) has 5 gears and it was dubbed the best 125cc two stroke of all time... Believe me from experience, it is great. You can exit corners with more speed than others. It has a bottom end that will out do any other 125 as well. I was racing up to a jump with someone else and just because my 4th gear is a little faster than his, I easily overtook him.

I hit 5th gear on my track every lap. Big downhill off of a jump.

I Looked at a 04 cr125 last summer, the bike needed suspension seals, idled at 5 grand, the kid told me he didn,t rejet for ice riding, I,m sure it needs  the cylinder replated. He wanted 1,800, I did the math on the parts then I left. He just called me the price now is 1,450 , a minute later 1,300 , last owner  2.5 yrs.  he calls it camp riding, the 1st owner accordding to him was a girl  her dad bought it new in 04 she raced it dad was the mechanic. The bike is a bit beat, guessing it,s from the last kid.  Just saying some sellers are having a hard time, selling.

Makes since. The only time 125's are cheap is at the end of summer.

Nah they are never cheap here. This area is bad for bike prices. They are always high.
