Title: Broken bike and broken bones.
Post by: Charles Owens on February 13, 2011, 03:59:58 PM
Went to Virginia Motorsports park today to ride the trails. It was fun, til the end.

Hit a tree, real hard.
Re-broke the rib I broke in September, and seperated shoulder.

Hope you heal up quick Charles.

I too had a scare today.  My 11 yo son crashed hard.  We thought he might have had a concussion and back injury but the ER doctor
just said he was banged up bad. Thank GOD.

The bad news is his mother has had enough with him riding.  Looks like it's stick and ball sports for a while.

man busted ribs, I feel ya brother that is the most painful injury I have ever experienced. Not only does it hurt at first it continues to hurt, everytime you laugh, cough, , crap, or move, period.
I had three cracked ribs and opted for the Ultram rather than the narcs. They work great without the side effects( itching, drowsiness, or speedy feelings) of Narcs. I used them in combination with Alieve 1 in the morning and the Ultram at night. I was riding again the next weekend.

Thanks guys, It really sucks dealing with the pain from a broken rib, then 4 months later going through it all over again.
I think a few ignition cover bolts broke some of the case out as well, still haven't really looked at it.
Bent front wheel as well, broken helmet.
I know I was lucky it was a HARD hit, the bike took out a big chunk of the tree. So did I.

oh man that pipe took a hit. i can imagine your ribs did too.  heal up fast.
btw i raced today. i went down in the 1st practice hard.  had to crawl off the track.  left hip and shoulder took the brunt of it. i was able to race though and had a great time.  i'm so diggin' my ktm 150sx.  it pulls my butt around just fine.  i passed quite a few 450's......  ;D

That,s sucks Charles getting injured riding is a bummer. I think the formula for non narcotic pain relieve is 3 ibuphropheren and 1 or 2 extra strenghth tylenal, that,s equil to a pain killer. I had my chriropractor put my shoulder back in, I had relief for a few hours, then it popped out again, but my shoulder is a 4 year old injury with big bone spurs. Depending on what is torn, the shoulder is the only joint that can heal it,s self. Good Luck

OMG,does that ever suck!Just look at your poor bike :o Oh,and um,you too of course :D ;)
I've had broken bones and two dislocations but never broken ribs-they say those are the most painful. That said,I think if I broke my helmet and the old melon was still ok,I'd consider myself somewhat fortunate.Get well soon.

This is not a judgement, but a curiosity. Were you wearing a chest protector.

Thanks guys, I know it could have been a LOT worse. I was wearing a chest protector, I'm sure it took the most of the hit.
I just know from the rib previously being broken, how much it sucks. Hurts to do anything, I slept maybe 30 minutes lastnight.
Sleepless nights, and a stressed out girl. :)

I looked at the bike for a minute earlier, 2 of the ignition cover bolts/case broke out. Bent front wheel, handlebars.
I need a new helmet, mine was a semi-cheapo. It's taken 2 hard hits, I'm not going to see if it will hold up to a 3rd.

Crap it took a beating!  You got a picture of the tree?  Should have carved the date and your initials into it!   :D

Haha, BTW, I just noticed this signature:

Charles, I hope you were not taking my advise about using a tree to stop like I mentioned in "mx to enduro" post. :-[

I know what you mean about trying to sleep, it's been 4 weeks since I cracked a few and it still hurts to lay down. But on the bright side I was able to go riding last Saturday, took a pretty good sized rock to the knee this time... gotta love dirt bikes!!!   :D

I was hoping you were, but it's scary you still got hurt that badly with it. I cringe to think what would have happened if you weren't. Definitely time for a new new lid. Put that one on a shelf and display it as a "trophy"  :) .

if only i could count the number of times my chest protector has saved my skin. They are a must have for weekend warriors of any type. Honestly it has saved me from a lot more than my leatt has.

Damn Charles. Heal up sooner rather than later.  You really need to move out to Socal. Not so many trees to jump out infront of you like that.  :P ;D

Long ago a friend taught me how to do a "Judo roll" and it really helps when you bail. :-X

Bugger!! I always said trail riding was dangerous.  In 25 years of mx racing I never once hit a tree..first enduro event I ever went in Bang!! Straight into one.
Certainly know how you feel though..I have 3 cracked ribs at the moment from an inexplicable get off.
Hope you heal quickly Charles.
