Title: Heck of a deal I came upon!
Post by: cmiller493 on January 11, 2011, 01:49:34 PM
(http://i900.photobucket.com/albums/ac202/12cmiller/IMG_0334.jpg)

Found this in my area listed at $3000 but they guy said he needed money. So I thought it couldnt hurt to make an offer of 2350, and he said he might take it! This bike is very clean 07 kx250! If this deal actually goes through, I may have come upon the deal of the year  :) Anybody heard anything on the 07 kx250s? On the dirt rider test, they liked it. On the MXA test, they hated it so I cant really tell. Either way, this is a super clean bike for a heck of a price :)

i bought a show room condition 2006 kx250 for 2300 on craigslist.  The bike didnt get very good reviews on magazines like mxa but i love the thing to death. Hears what the bike looked like the day i bought it.

Awesome deal.  Good luck.  I got alot of extra power out of that bike, when I put on a FMF fatty and ported the motor.  I mean, A LOT.

Haha I wont be needing ANY more power for a while. I am coming off a kx125 and am still wondering if a 250 is to much for me yet. But im hoping I can get used to the power.

Awesome! I have heard they benefit a lot from a aftermarket linkage arm cause they are a tad longer. Its suppose to keep the back planted more and improve handling.

That is EXACTLY what I have heard also. That will probably be the first hop-up I do to the bike (if he even decides to sell it to me at that price :) ) I dont know if I will get the whole linkage or just the linkage arm. I think they are meaning just the linkage arm is needed.

wow thats clean.  last year i found out a coworker had an 05 that had been ridden around the block once!  it scared him so he parked it and forgot about it.  my other buddy bought it for 1800 ( i negotiated the deal  ;D )
those bikes have great low to mid torque.
enjoy it...

Wow that thing is still brand new. I would definitly grab it for 2300, anything you dont like can be fixed  :)

Haha the only thing im "worried" about not liking, is that it is going to be to much bike for me.

Don't worry about what the magazines reckon, for that price buy it!!!

If he decides to accept the offer I made, I will. Im just surprised if he goes down $650 from his asking price, but he said he might be able to do that  :o.

Heck Id pay $2600-$2800 if its really what you want. Either way its a new bike for half price!

Yeah, I would too, I dont have the money though. That is why I offered him what I did. Now its up to him to decide if hes willing to give it away for that, especially now that snow has hit kansas, nobody else will be buying a bike anytime soon.

Thats awesome Corey. Definitely get that. Hands down. If you dont like it, put it back up for 2500 (stay firm) and get a nicer 125.

The seller was probably only looking for 2200-2500 for the bike anyways. When you list it for 3k, and someone offers you 2.3k and you accept, the buyer feels like they are getting an amazing deal...

But dont get too excited. That might not be the case. He might be really stretching on this.

I think hes stretching, its taking him a while to decide if he will accept the offer. It is a lot nicer than that cr125 I showed you. If I were to sell it back, i'd wait and sell it and get a 150sx!

Dude, that is a sweet friggin ride for what he's askin, if he takes your offer even better.
Forget the linkage. set the sag at 93mm and put the forks all the way down in the clamps. the bike is sprung for a 200lb rider, spend your money on springs for your weight, and put a flywheel weight on it, I run 11oz. it really smooths out the power delivery. the KX250 has a gnarly hit when it comes onto the pipe.
 Here's My 07 KX250 bought new 4-16-07

That's a great looking bike hope you get to buy it. I love the later KX's, but used ones around here are top dollar. Last week a nice 2006 popped up and the guy was $4500 and the ad is gone so he either sold it or changed his mind.

Nice deal, very clean bike that one!

I am considering getting another bike, probably a newer bike, but I don't really like most of the newer bikes.  KTM 300 is possibility but I don't think it's powerful enough.  I was thinking of maybe trying to get a later model Maico 500, like 2000s if I can find one, might call the guy in Erie and see.  If KTM had a 380 (newer) I may have considered it, not sure of the 90's 360's after riding them a bit they just are too torquey.  Thats always my problem, even if I want a newer bike I don't like any of them and end up with a good older bike :)

This is outside of getting a new bike but there is now a possibility I may be inheriting a 98 KX500 for free.  It's already in my garage, was storing it for the guy but now he's moving to california and I was like so when you putting that bike for sale and right now he was like I'll prob just tell you to keep it.

You can't beat free. I am not a 500 fan but wouldn't turn it down. Anybody come across any more free bikes, let me know, my 16 year old nephew needs to move up from his 80 LOL.

We'll see if I get it or not, it's possible he could take it with him or change his mind and sell it :)

Probably find out in a few weeks since that's when he moves.

I have a 144 and I was thinking of getting a 250 but was worried about the power so I got a 250f and I made the right choice cause I rode a ver very nice yz250 and I think that would have been too big a step up for me.  The 250f is a nice in-between bike I feel and I love it so far.  I still have my smoker though don't worry lol. Been riding it the past 3 weeks actually.

Four strokes are good learner bikes. That's their only good feature imho. But even though youre using it as a learning bike, it will still negatively impact you more than you think. You will develop bad habits, get lazy. Your line choice will be poor. A two stroke has the option to take many many lines a four stroke can't take. You just joined the conga line my friend. You just can't beat the snappy flickable explosive 2t.

See thats what im worried about too..is a 250 being to much for me, because im not even considered a fast 125 rider. I cant afford a 250f though.

I agree. 4 strokes WILL teach you bad habbits but I think a 250f is alot less likely to teach you those habbits compared to a 450. You still have to "work" to make a 250f go fast unlike a 450. In a way I can see a 250f being a good stepping stone to a 250 twostroke because alot of people (me included) find the transition from a 125 to a 250 very drastic. It was like going from a Honda Civic to a Corvette for me  :D  I was still riding the C class at the time also so my experience could have made it seem worse than it really was though.

Its no secret that Im not 100% against 4 strokes but there is no way I would ever purchase a used 250f (talk about a time bomb). If you cant afford a new one or (atleast a very low hour one), I wouldnt risk my life riding it. I would just opt for the 250 2t and be careful.

I agree with you on some of that snook, im not 100% against 4 strokes. As a 17 year old kid though, i cant afford to buy a brand new 250f, and cant afford the consequences of buying a used ticking time bomb. I think you pretty much answered me 125 or 250 question right there. I wouldnt even consider myself a midpack C rider yet, so I think its obvious I shouldnt be on a 250 yet. Theres a nice 2006 cr125 that a gy wants to sell me for 1800, but I have heard they dont have near as good of engines and the yz125s do, so im not sure which I will get.

It wasnt all bad for me. In alot of ways a bigger bike (250 2 stroke) is easier to ride....but when you get tired late in the moto, or get a lil wisky throttle between some jumps it can be very dangerous if your not ready for it.

I love the newer cr125s, I raced an 05 for a while and it handled awesome. I say grab the 06

Yes, YZ does have a better engine. Wider powerband so easier to ride. But no reason to avoid CR because of that, difference is not that big.
Biggest advance YZ 125 have (my opinion) is suspension. Yamahas from 2006 onwards have SSS suspension which is really good. CR 125's have older model open chamber KYB's, which are good but not in SSS level.
All in all, CR is sure good enough stock to grab some C-level trophies :)
And CR's best part is reliability. It just simply last and last and last ..... even with little maitenance ;)

Myck, i understand you can tone one down. But, I have only been riding for about a year, and i only weigh about 135-140 pounds so I'm not a big kid at all. Idk, I just want something im going to have fun on, that will have a lot of power, but not ride in fear the whole time.

Well, I just saw the guy repost his kx250 ad..he must have sent me pictures RIGHT when he bought it because the new pictures he posted on his ad are not the ones he sent me. The new ones have a lot of frame and case wear. I think I am going to just go with the cr125

I understand CMiller, go with the 125, I would if I weren't so fat, I love my sons KX125, but as soon as I find myself in sand or going up a hill steeper than the hood on a Fiero I need the extra 125cc.

Well, I have to say, there is a solution to all your 250 2 stroke worries.  I did the same thing with my wifes 85, when everyone was saying it can't be done bla bla bla.  I've been building enough bikes to tell you it is easy.  If you want to own a bike that runs just like a 250F, but is a 250 2 stroke, look no further.  Take the pipe off, make a metal thin sheet or use a thin washer to fill the pipe fitting completely, where it hits the exhaust of the cylinder.  Drill a hole exactly half of what the stock diameter is.  Your bike will still have the same low end, so it will still have more low end than a 250F stock.  But then the top end will just not rev, so the topend will be very very comparable to a 250F topend.  You will be astonished at how easy it is to make a bike run just alike a 4 stroke, but still be reliable as a 2 stroke.  My wifes CR85 is perfect now for her. It has more low end than stock, because I doubled the reeds, but with the pipe mod, it takes the top end (powerband) away.  So now, I bet if you dyno it, it would be very comparable to a 4 stroke powerband.  Very.

I did the same thing to my sons kx60. But my 250 I put an 11oz flywheel weight a vforce3 and a gnarly pipe. I had a tourque spacer in the intake tract origionally, and tried it with the vforce, but it was a pain in the ass to deal with the carb installation and removal and I didn't notice any signifigant loss of bottom with out it as the vforce has half of the spacers length built into it.
I can ride it off the bottom in 2nd , 3rd &4th and it just rolls on like an xr400, but I can still wind it up and ride in the top of 1st and 2nd but it sure takes alot of energy to ride it like that for long.
