This photo was taken in 1978... obviously two of the riders are very well-known, but can you name all three?
-
Aw hell. I know it's not Adolf Weil; he looks like Paul Newman and that guy doesn't. All the other big Maico names I know have really bad returns on Google. I'm just gonna throw some names out there.
Willi Bauer?
Hans Maisch?
Gaylon Mosier?
Danny Chandler?
:(

I love it when jetz gets stumped on these things. Keep them coming. Jetz needs the frazzle. ;) :P
-
By the way, John, I don't think the late Mr. Mosier would like your system changing his name to "Happylon."
-
Ohh mann! I almost choked from laughing so hard!!! I'll work on the word filter over the next few days (meaning I'm too lazy to do it now!) :P
Hey Jetz - can you name the other two racers? Hey no fair using Google... just as a hint the Maico rider currently lives in Southern California teaching other people how to do something that is not motocross related....
Not sure if that's any help! LOL
-
The other two are very obviously Bob Hannah and Marty Smith. Unfortunately, I guess I don't spend enough time stalking former Maico riders.
-
Would it help you if I told you that his first name is "Steve"??? :o :o
Back in the "good old days" he was a very well-known and respected racer. As you can see from the photo he is a bit taller than the other guys.
-
His name is Steve and I believe his last name Starts with a S. :)
Here is a link to the company he works for and the answer:

Oh oh oh oh!
I remember reading in one of the ye olde magazines about a Steve Stackable who swooped in on his Maico and destroyed everyone on the field. Mikkola, DeCoster, the lot. They just didn't have a chance that day. Totally forgot about him. I actually thought he was a fairly small-time racer, maybe even a local dude who just happened to know the track. Guess not.

That's the thing about the late 1970's there were more than two racers that could win on Sunday. It certainly made the racing more interesting and fun, it was not a forgone conclusion of who would win!
Guys like Steve Stackable could beat the best in the world on certain days, unfortunately for those that did not win championships did not get much written about them..... pretty sad actually.
