Alot of love on that thread  ;D
But all true.
If more people stopped worrying about the lack of dealers and bought them just for the bikes good points , you would see alot more around.
They are very reliable.

One interesting side note. If you wanted something 2-stroke, well developed, and just that wee bit different, why would you buy the new Maico over and above the existing (and proven) TM. From what I can see so far the Maico will be more expensive but will have to be very good indeed to even equal the TM as an all round package.

Will the name be enough to justify the extra money?

Maicos and TMs are distinctly different motorcycles. As an owner and rider of both brands I tend to be happier on the Maico and am willing to pay the premium. ;D

"why would you buy the new Maico over and above the existing (and proven) TM"

Maico is more proven than TM, ppl rode Maicos in the 70s so there's a long heritage there.

You should have bought one!

I've three!

Just not sure what to make of the new ones, is it a "Maico" or isn't it?

Then again, what's in a name.

I do not understand the maico thing so much. Owned one once. Anyway i have never seen a new maico in real or in a test. Europe is fond of KTM. Why not buy a KTM in stead of a TM? Really strange is that TM are kinda cheap in Europe second hand. I guess due to bad marketing. But i can say i have never seen such a beautifull mx bikes as TM.

Lets first see a test of a maico to just get an opinion.

Yeah, I don't have an opinion on Maico's, I havn't ever riden one. I just don't like to see most threads around here turn into the usual "Just buy the NEW Maico" without any referance to the fact that they don't exist! No one has tested one, and you can not order one in the US.

Old ones are cool looking bikes though, I might take my neighbours 490 for a spin, When he gets her running.

Hands up everyone who has riden a new Maico ? Anyone ? :-[. The silence is deafening.

TM's are proven
And there are actual tests on them.

The motor dates back to the 1983 Motor with improvements over the years and tweeks but it's relatively close to the 1983 engine, which has a lot of experience on it.  However, in recent years Maicos were produced in limited numbers, more limited than the TM.  However, they do exist and ppl have ridden them and everyone I have ever talked to who has always says good things.  The 2011 engine by Maico Internation will be the first changes in over 10 years to the engine, provided you go with the F1 Factory option.

The engine design is used by several companies, including MX Zabel for side car racing.  It's a proven design over the last 30 years.

Yeah, somehow a reference to the TM's turned into a Maico thread ???  Work that one out. I often wonder if this is really twostrokemaico.com !!

No offence intended John.

Sorry, that would be my fault. :-[

Against that, this is a 2-stroke motocross site (obviously), when was the last time we were a few weeks away from the launch of a full range of newly developed 2-stroke motocross bikes, including proper big bore versions?

These forthcoming Maicos bear absolutely no relation to anything that has carried the name before so I think anybody who can embrace the whole ethos behind this wonderful site, has to be quite fascinated by their impending arrival.
