I have one of those in my garage right now. My friend bought it as a basket case for his son for Christmas. I have it stripped down to the frame. The frame, swing-arm, triples, pegs, bars, etc have all been sandblasted and painted. I went over the engine and had him order seals, gaskets, etc. You can get a complete plastic set for $139 on eBay that also includes a new seat and air filter for these PW80's. No pictures yet though. I will take some when I start the re-assemble.
You're not going to have much luck with that plastic. You can try scotchbrite pads, fine steel wool, or fine sandpaper. Some people suggest using a razor blade to lightly scrape the discolored layer off but I never liked that method.

Just as an FYI, those little PW's are like the (OK I'm showing my age here) SL/ XR Honda 70's / 80's of my day. They are basically bullet proof with little to no maintenance. Back in the day, as a kid, I never checked to see if the bike had oil... I mean we never checked things like that... Missing bolts... loose chain's... who cared... as long as we had gas, and the tires held air, off we went... We simply rode the piss out of those bikes... The only maintenance I did was to put some oil on the chain when it got really rusty... I did have to have the frame welded once after it broke from jumping the bike too much. I can't believe those bikes held up to the abuse they received.
If I'm not mistaken the PW series are really bullet proof, and should require little to no maintenance. The kids will be all smiles come Xmas morning...

I recommend putting it under the tree. He'll never guess what the big blob of wrapping-paper (complete with ghostly silhouette of knobbies and handlebars) could possibly be! Just be sure to drain the gas first, or else the tree might catch fire and that would be bad. Also, be sure to tell him not to go more than 15 miles an hour in the house.

Cant go wrong with the PW.
A mate had one for his son (hes grown out of it) and a couple of years ago it broke down on a ride we had. I did not see it.
It got towed back and when we got home it fired up straight away.
I said to him when did you last put oil in it, he said last week.Well at the time they were living at the beach and Max (the son) was on it every day.
Any way Max shoots off up the road and the thing stops after about 5 mins.
I pulled the seat and it had no oil in it. >:(
We fulled it up with oil waited for it to cool down and off Max went again. ;D
The bike is still going today and still has reasonable compression.

I rode a PW50 back in 99 :D It was my first bike! But eventually my exhaust fell off and the foot pegs got bent down and my uncle would always lift up the back of my bike as I was trying to take off! I was so confused! But it wasn't my first ever ride. Which I do have on film :) It even has my first crash.
Sorry about the quality but I had to record it off a broken VCR haha First Ride, 12 years ago! (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9F4hinuwikE#)

Since this is already a PW80 thread I figured I would post the before/after pics of the PW80 I fixed up from my friend Josh's boys. They should be pretty happy next weekend :) .

Coop you da man... 1st the KX 60 and now the PW80... I can't wait to see the KDX after a winter's worth of transformations...
-
Thanks guys. I am looking forward to seeing pictures of their faces next week haha.
-
yo coop, where did u get the new plastic for the pw?
-
For my old CR I used to clean the white with soft scrub with bleach. It will make the white look like new. You can use it all over that PW but have to rinse good, to get the white film off. It cleans like it cleans dishes. ;D

There are kits on ebay. Some include the seat and tank, some are just fender's. The seat fit was very poor so I used the cover off the new seat to recover the old one that fit perfectly LOL.
