Anyone in Australia that wants to go racing next year, you can now race the lites class on a 250 two stroke. New rules as follows :
Motorcycling Australia (MA) is aware of the need to purchase bikes for the 2011 racing season prior to the release of the 2011 Manual of Motorcycle Sport (MoMS).
As a result MA has decided to release the following rule change prior to the distribution of the MoMS.
Two changes have been made to Chapter 17 regarding bikes used for competition.
GCR 17.5.1.1b) will (from 1 January 2011) read:
Class - Capacity
Lite:
Up to 250cc (2 or 4 stroke)
Open
255cc and over 4 stroke
250cc and over 2 stroke (2 stroke permitted to ride one class only)
GCR 17.12.1 will (from 1 January 2011) read:
Class - Capacity 2 stroke - Capacity 4 stroke
Pro Lites - Up to 250cc - Up to 250cc
Pro Open - 255cc to 450cc - 255cc to 450cc
These changes will come into effect from 1 January 2011, and the completed MoMS will be placed online at www.ma.org.au/moms (http://www.ma.org.au/moms) once finalised, in addition to being distributed in December.

Am I interpreting correctly that 450cc two-strokes now have a home? Well if so, only one question remains. Which modern frame will be the first to receive the vintage muscle?! :D

I was speaking to one of the Coolum officials on the w/end about the rule change, he, who shall remain namelss, said MA was just following a yet unreleased FIM rule change which was a parity in classes for seniors and, wait for it, a ban on 4 strokes in mini classes !!!! :o

Yeah, how good is it. I had heard of the rumoured FIM rule changes, which I believe, want to eventually have, a 125cc two stroke developmental class, similar to our u/19 class, but on 125's, the 250 class, and the open class being 350cc. This obviously would be an on going process, but definitely going to be interesting.

Yeah, that is how it reads, so I guess a sleeved down 500 would get the job done as well. I would love to see someone racing one, but I dont think there are many big bore two stroke riders left these days.

Swapper, Do you know if there is an age limit on the bikes.?
And would a Service Honda be legal ( sleeved down ). ie are hybrids legal.

The capacity limit is only in the pro class, us mere mortals can ride a Maico 700 in the class if we like, but that has always been the case.
The only real change is that you don't have to punt your 250 against 450's anymore.
Age shall not weary them TM, ride whatever year you want.

You can get a 5 acre property on the edge of town here in kiwi land with a 3 bedroom house for about 400k.
You may have to remove all the equestrian crap tho. :D

Sounds like there could be a good market there for the new 390 Maico,
............assuming it's all that we anticipate it to be of-course.

So this could possibly mean that Antonio Cairoli could be riding against 450 2-strokes next year (or 350 2-strokes)?

There may be a market emerging for big bore smokers.
TM 350/390 , Husaberg 400 , Maico 390. 8)
A good chance for the little guys to make some headway in sales.

The accent just seals the deal, the fact that she's a woman makes it impossibe to understand whats she's talking about. ;D

Don't quote me on the FIM thing, just a discussion I had with an official. May never happen.
