Title: New member intro.
Post by: HS125 on September 27, 2010, 08:20:49 AM
Hey guys,

Just wanted to introduce myself.  I've been a lurker on here for a while. ;D

I'm 40 yo and have been riding bikes on and off since I was 10.  My current ride is a 2006 YZ125 that I can honestly say is the most fun bike I've owned.  I also have a 11 yo son that rides as well. (2003 CR85R)  We live in North Alabama and mostly ride trails with a little mx (practice only).  I have raced one buddy harescramble that was a blast and intend to do more in the future.

Like many, I fell for the 4-stroke hipe and purchased a 2004 CRF250R that was easy to ride with decent power but just didn't have what I was looking for.  I found myself getting lazy riding it and the fun factor just wasn't there.  The maintenace cost along with the worry of the thing exploding(not that 2 st don't but , the rebuild cost is considerable less) really got me back to the 2 stroke.  After owning several 2 strokes over the years(1989 YZ125, 1985 CR500, 1991 RMX250, 2001 KX250) and a 1988 XR600 (tractor) and the CRF of course, I decided to get back to the 2 stroke, which I will probably always ride from now on.

BTW, great site.

P.S. Are there any members on here from the South?

Lyle

That's awesome that you still ride a 125!

You can upload a photo by doing this:

Snap a photo with a digital camera.

Upload it to your computer

Create a profile on http://photobucket.com/ (http://photobucket.com/)

Go to the 'my home' tab and upload your photo to your profile

Then click on the 'my home' tab and locate your photo on that page

click the photo

on the left of the screen, there is a box that says 'share your photo'

with your cursor highlight the link that says 'IMG Code' then right click it and select 'copy'

come back to this topic, and when you post your reply, just right click and select 'paste'

Then press post and wala!

Feel free to ask any questions

Hey. Welcome HS125.  I haven't been on as much due to life getting in the way but sure is nice to see some new members.

BTW. I'm from Louisiana but have lived in Caifornia since 1991. Special thanks to Uncle Sam for helping me out with that.  ::) As they say you can take the boy out of the country but, so on and ao forth.

Be careful psoting pics around here. Photoshop is a dangerous tool in the wrong hands. :P ;D

Hey guys.  JT here from Colorado.  Maybe some of you are from the Vital board or the defunct Motodrive board, so you'll recognize my name.

Anyway, I went back to 2 strokes after owning/riding big-bore YZF's and CRF's.  Bought a 2004 RM250 a few years ago "just because", swung a leg over it, and it reminded my why I love the sport so much.  The 4-strokes made me forget!

I still have that RM (my son thinks it's his...lol), and I went out and bought a Service Honda 500 ('05 frame).  That is undoubtedly the most amazing dirt bike I've ever ridden!  Don't base your opinion on the bike from your first (or your second) ride.  It requires a bit of getting used to, but once you do, you'll realize it's even more amazing than it looks like on paper.

Welcome and you can't talk about your bike like that and not post pictures. Don't make me ban you after one post...LOL (Just kidding of course)

I agree too.  Very nice AF500.

I used to love riding my 500 a gear or two high through the woods.  I do not miss kick starting the thing though.  The '85 had a kick starter that was straight, no bend what so ever!

RM's are nice too, they make a very good woods bike also.

I just realized I don't have any pics. of my YZ.  I'm currently waiting on parts so, when it's back together I'll post up a pic.

Welcome to the site HS125. I read that you had a 04 cr250f, if your wondering what the 04 cr125 is like I bought a left over in 05. Stock the  04 cr125 wasn,t very good, but if you deck and port the cylinder, borre the carb, icat,pc pipe and silencer and reeds it,s much quicker and faster. I have a 06 cr125 also, just put a rad valve and pc silencer, icat and stiffer fork, shock springs, it,s really fun to ride, comes off of corners alot better with the rad valve-good stuff. Of course I had to disasemble the rad valve to polish the insides.
