You can tell the guy beat the crap out of that bike, the clutch cover was even dented in. Prolly needs a complete rebuild :)

I'm rebuilding an 02 TM 250 MX and what a nightmare it has been. The linkage bolts are so rusted and siezed I had to use a sawzall to cut thru them to remove the swingarm.The swingarm pivot bolt was deformed and siezed so badly I had to cut it out in pieces as well.The rear Ohlins shock shaft is bent as well. I'm starting to think some freestyle guy shot this bike a couple of storeys into the air, bailed off,the bike landed on it's back tire and was then parked to rust. :(

The care or lack of care that some people have with their bikes astounds me. Sounds like the previous owner never took anything apart to lube it, then power washed out all the remaining grease!
If you don't know what you're doing with a power washer you can cause extreme damage.....
The reason so many people use them is that it makes cleaning their bikes very easy. But just because there is no chunky mud on your bike, does not mean that it's clean or even in good shape. Maintaining your bike will ensure that everything will work and come apart when needed. Also even more important to some, your bike will be worth more when you decide to sell it.
Sorry to hear about your struggles in getting the bike apart.

I dont use a power washer for the above reasons.
Just a bucket of soapy water a hose and brush.
And some elbow grease.

Either you've been very lucky, or have a lower pressure power washer. Most have much too much pressure which gets water into places you really don't want water.
Of course it gets worse when a racer never maintains their machine. At least once a year it worth it to take apart every area that has bearings with grease then clean and apply some fresh grease.
Some four-stroke folks have pointed out that they have raced for many years without ever having to do anything but oil changes. Others have said they have smoke 2 pack of cigarettes a day for 80 years and they're fine. I guess what I'm saying is you can do all the wrong things and still be okay... but the down side could be very bad!!

I think if you are careful not to hit spray directly on problem areas like hubs, linkage, chains, carbs, etc, pressure washers can be a safe and useful tool. I don't think you have to be lucky, just careful. Which of course most people aren't careful when using one and thats the problem. But generally twice a year my bikes get taken down completely for inspection and maintenance. I have been a bit of slacker with it this year, but I really haven't ridden as much as I used to either. We missed a lot of riding due to my back and my nephew being busy with football. And now that my classes have started back up I'll be lucky to get out 1-2 times a month before it starts to snow here around the end of October. I hope to buy a "new old" bike in a couple weeks so I'll make sure I get back on track with my bike maintenance. I also hope for Zach to move up from his 80 to a 125 next season so I'll definitely stop slacking on my bike duties LOL.

well now, I will be extra careful then. The only problems I've had with a pressure washer was the decals. :'(
