Title: JRF Torque Contoller
Post by: TMKIWI on August 25, 2010, 09:19:11 PM
I decided to give my bike a birthday since I havnt done anything to it since I bought it.
I have done 40Hrs and the bike had new ring and gaskets when I got it.
I also wanted to know how the adjustable power valve assembly worked. I am a curious bastard and I dont trust what anyone else may have done before.
So I pulled the barrel off and checked the piston. There was slight marks on the exhaust side & the inlet was mint.
The ring was in better shape then I thought so I have left it for a couple more hours. The importer has run out and TM is on holiday for August. I pulled the exhaust valve out and it was mint as well with no carbon buildup.I am going to stick with Total Racing 2T @ 40:1 with avgas. If your motor loves it, why change ?.
I talked to the importer earlier in the week and he knows my bike and said the guy I bought it off had it detuned because he couldnt handle the power  :o.Now the bike goes pretty bloody good with way more power then my RM but apparently it can go better.I found it had 2 base gaskets and the timing was retarded just a little.I have put it back to factory specs and rejetted it to suit. I will find out this weekend. We have a flat track meeting on sunday.
Anyway I thought I would show you guys how the JRF works.

The first photo shows the power valve actuating rod.The pin in the top has a socket in it to accept the controller.

The second photo shows the inside of the controller. The rod at the top connects to the socket in top photo.

The third photo shows the controller fitted to engine. The knob on top is the adjuster.

The unit is a hydraulic dampner and controls the speed the power valve opens.
1 is factory standard and doesnt do anything (big hit) ;D & 8 stops the power valve opening at all (tractor) :-[
I normally run it at 3 which allows the bike to get a bit of traction before the wheel spins up.
KTM guys have a similar thing with their different springs. The advantage of this is you can adjust on the go.
I e-mailed the designers in Aussie and they are developing units to fit other bikes but would not say what or when.
If you have a bike thats ported for top end these will help give you a little more bottom end.

Can't wait for the weekend to try it. ;D

TM,
That little gizmo got a good review from ADB a few months ago.
Does the TM have on the fly ignition setting as well?

No mine hasn't. The 08's and newer have the ignition switch.

That is really cool!!!! you could set it on 8 and let a novice take your bike for a ride and not be too concerned that he would hurt himself or more importantly your bike!!!

Yeh you are right. ;D It is a little puppy when on 8.
On 1 tho, well thats a different story. :D
The tm's were known as pretty savage animals when standard so the aussie importers designed the controller so the bike would appeal to more people.
You have to remember the tm's are a race bike off the floor and are too much for most people.
Including me. ;D
PS. The flat track we did on sunday, I out dragged 3 450's to the first corner and was neck & neck with a new yzf450.

Na, just standard jockstrap for this boy. :P
Modern "Big Bores" are alot of fun.
It's a mixture of ear to ear grins and carrying spare underwear. ;)
