The biggest thing that annoys me about TWMX is that little thumbnail on the right-hand side that says "Browse User Images" and has a 490 Maico with a model standing in front of it. I click on the link but I can't find the picture!
Anyway, this guy mentions a rotary-valve bike a few times. Of course, I'm a huge believer in rotary-valve two-strokes because I've seen what it did to the old Kawasakis. The Green-Streaks and BigHorns were utterly not of this world, but I didn't know anyone played with it in the '80s on their works bikes. Any info on this?

The Puch works bikes had rotary vaves in the 1980's... I think it was Harry Everts (Stefan's dad) that raced it, I believe that the bike was raced at the USGP at Unadilla...
Although all of the above is from memory... :P :P

Well yeah, there were a few off-brands that rocked the rotaries for some time (no offense to anyone who lives in some part of the world where Puch isn't an off-brand... if such a place exists) including Can-Am. But it seems to me that Dogger was talking about, like, a late-80s Yamaha or something that had it.

Yes,Harry Everts did race the Puch.That bike was actually a twin carb.Piston port and rotary valve.I know a person that owns one of them.

Might be something here on the rotary yamaha, If not it's a great site anyway, bikes from an era when factory riders got to ride real individual fatory bikes.

Harry Everts was 1975 250 World champion on that bike. It was claimed to put out almost 50 HP with grunt like an open bike by using both the rotary valve and piston port. That is one bike I would love to be able to try out. They were actually for sale back around 1976 or so but there were only about 100 made. Cost was over US$3000 back in 76, probably in the $12,000 range using todays dollars. They were the exact bike that took Harry E. to his championship.
The Puch that was ridden at Unadilla USGP in 79 or 80 had a Rotax(Can-Am) single carb motor and was ridden by Heinz Kinigadner before he went to Yamaha and KTM. I had photos somewhere of those aqua green Puchs he rode that day.
