Title: Finally got to get in a ride
Post by: eprovenzano on August 08, 2011, 09:32:43 PM
This has been a bad riding season...  It started in at the end of April, I was having some discomfort, but as most of us do, I ignored it until my wife said you're going to the hospital...  My appendix had ruptured.  I go to a teaching hospital, (University of Pittsburgh Medical Center) where the consensus was to leave it alone, and pump me full of antibiotics...  They wanted it to "cool off" before they would remove it...  they wanted to do the surgery in mid July, and until then I had to curtail my activities...   >:-D which meant no riding... But, at the end of June my appendix decided it wanted to come out... but of course after surgey I had to heal... so finally, in August I'm released to resume all activity...

So of course I had to dust off the bike and go riding with my son and some friends....  All I can say is Damn; I'm really out of shape...  It was a hot +90 degree day with high humidity, I did ride for four hours with many, many stops for water, but in the end I was completely out of gas....

I got to turn the clock back and be 15 years old for several hours, and then after the ride, turned 70 for a few days...but, Iâ??ll be ready to go out again Saturdayâ?¦  :D

BTW there were more smokers out on the track and in the trails than I've ever seen there in the past....

Good news on the ride, bad news on the appendix! Sounds like you had fun, and that's what counts.

I haven't ridden in almost two months because my back has been really bad again. My poor KDX is neglected.

I'm a bit of a maintenance geek, as I don't have much time to ride, so I need my equipment to perform without any problems. So while I was down, I spent some time cleaning, replacing wheel bearings, and doing some general maintenance.  The bike was so clean, I almost hated to get it dirty....  almost   :P

I haven't been on the YZ yet this year, knee surgery, septic system problems, and rebuilding the TS185 I bought.  August in Maine, snow is right around the corner!!!  I better get out soon....

I havn't been on the bike since I broke my wrist in March.
Having surgery next Wednesday to pin it together. 2 months in a cast then rehab.
Hopefully back on the bike in November.
Shit it is frustrating. :(

Pbbbfffttttt, boo hoo.TMKIWI with a sore paw,Sachs with a weekend project, jeez you guys, you just need to be more like me.So far this year,I have every intention of starting the bike at least once before the snow flies :D
No medical reasons, just no time.I don't know how I used to do it but I guess I used to just drop everything and go.Now when the activity involves the little one,I drop riding and go with her.Just wait 'til next year!
Take heart TMKIWI,it sounds like an ideal time to get some fishing in to me.Congrats on getting clear on the mechanic BS,I wish I could. :(

Glad to hear your back riding your 300 Katoom Eric. That's good news for sure! I have'nt been riding myself for @ least 3 or 3.5 weeks & I'm starting to get a little stir crazy but I'm going to take a ride on my Katoom today after a Doctors appt. up on the same ol' mountain I've been riding on for years! It does get just a little boring @ times but bow hunting season starts tomorrow & although I no longer bow hunt (I only go out in rifle season to hopefully kill a deer as I love venison!) today will be the last day I'll be riding up on the mountain for a while as I don't want to make any of the bow hunters or squirrel hunters mad. I got my old '94' Ford f-150 running now so I can take my Katoom other places to ride & as long as I don't get injured or sick I'll be riding as much as I can the next couple months.......... ;D

LOL God or wife willing...  :D ;D ;) That's funny Eric but I do know what you mean! I no longer have a wife but I still have the children I must tend to & I love spending time with my kid's!  When they get a little older we'll have to get them some 2-strokes to ride! I think they need to be broken in the hard & fast way for sure! They will be for sure!........

I had every intention of putting some time on the 20 different bikes that I have, and I live across the street from a great riding area.
Trouble is, I hate going out alone on any of my 500's or the other high performance bikes alone.
My problem is getting OTHERS to ride.
So, I take a vintage bike out from time to time by myself.
I've been trying to dial in my Contour helmet cam, frame rate, wind noise etc....
Anyway, here's a short video from yesterday on my 1974 TY250.

Hey Tharrell - great place to ride. Wish I had that across the street from my house! Lucky! And good job on the riding -- no loops today eh?   ;D

I have busy weekends lined up one after another. *sigh*. Hoping I can make a brief show at the Yamaha Enduro get together 2 weeks hence in Gorman CA. Will also try to get onto one of my 4 (vintage) dirt bikes a touch after work sometime this week. No saddle time for me the past 3 weeks...

I sure understand that "get to be 15" for awhile quip. When I am riding its the only time I feel young again these days.

Doesn't that place just rock?
Did you notice all the turkeys in video 011?

There's at least 1000 acres available from one landowner who gave me permission to ride.
He's clearing some sections as you could probably tell.
He's seeding one area today that was a ton of fun while they where in different stages of clearing it.
The leaves are falling now so it's easy to pick good lines through the trees, I'm gonna lay out some trails while I can see through there.
I've been trying to get some guys to go riding but for one reason or another it just doesn't work out.
Jobs, wives, kids, weather etc....
After seeing my flip video I'm sure you understand why I don't take a 500 out there alone.
But I did get stranded the day before I took this video. Trash in the carb. Loooong walk home!
Fuel filters are our friends!!!
My TY250 has the alternate peg option and it's uncomfortable to stand. I'm gonna move them back to the original location and see what that's like.
I was thinking about the 1968 DT1 I have. I need to get it done so I can ride it out here on the trails that I get laid out.
