"This is two-stroke advice, but if your four-stroke won't startâ??step one is to get a magic marker and step two is to write "For Sale" on a piece of cardboard."  :P  ;D

MXA still confuses me about where they stand on two strokes. One second they talk trash about owning a 4 stroke and then they're supporting it. I know any good press is a small victory, but its annoying.  :-\

Well, I've been pestering a couple people about this. Maybe I'll get lucky and one of them will do something like this.

We'll see though.

they are indifferent. they know that overall two strokes are the better way but at the same time recognize that 4ts make good racing machines as well. both have strong point and weak points and thats what they try to point out.

As everything has gone 4t,it would be the death of the mag for MXA to not cover them as the primary racing weapon that they currently are.I'm impressed they give as much 2t coverage as they do-and don't pull any punches.

They could give 4 strokes the same amount of coverage and include 2 strokes in the shootouts. Until they do that all these articles that promote 2 strokes and dis 4 strokes are kind of hollow to me

I agree,
in a magazine shootout, EVERY bike for that specific class should be included!

I want to see them do a 125 shootout. Yamaha, KTM, Husqvarna, Suzuki, and TM

I know this is off topic but I'd like to see a best of shoot out: Like the best new 450F vs the best 250F and a 250 and 125 2T and then through in maybe the 81 Maico or other vintage (Evo) machine to compare just what $10K gets you these days. I'd like to see best lap times from each rider for each bike as well to make an informed impression.

Well at least they finally have a 250 vs. 250 2 stroke shoot out.

Edit: I should also point out they mention Suzuki listing the RM250 as a 2012 model for the US market...

That was a very enjoyable article, nice reading.
And yes, there is a 2012 Yamaha YZ

I guess most of you have seen it already;

I had mentioned it on Vital, that I hadn't seen it for a while on the US side. Guess they agree, or copied. LOL.  Either way, makes me wonder if the ol rumors thing that went around was more truth than led on from those on Vital. hmm

What anoys me about these tests is they mention TM,Husky @ GG but dont test them.
Well test them all together and then you have a true test of which is best.

I was thinking a shootout between the 450F and the 250F. Then a comparison with the 250 2T and 125 2T. Many potential buyers I talk to think "I'm a big guy, I need a 450" or "a 125 will be too slow for me". When the truth is that very few of us can ride even a 125 to it's potential. Think to Kurt Caselli in recent times (competing on a 125 in the desert), Shane Watts in the GNCC's, or Hannah overalling the combined 125/500 events.

I believe in the notion that over the course of the race, the 125 is fastest. There are times and sections when the bigger bikes will have an advantage but I think that over the course of a long hot event, the minibike rider would be fresher at the end. I'd also like to see the lap times to see if it is just a pro level phenomenon or if it is the same down throught e ranks.

MXA is still owned by the OEMs. They have a little leeway on 2-stroke verbage, but absolutely no testing against the Fs. they would get spanked hard by the OEMs (er, Honda).

Burn, MXA is not owned by any of the OEMs. I have more respect for MXA than say DirtRider or the others (Jimmy Lewis is a straight up asshat), but then Jody can be as well, but he is far more down to earth in person than Jimmy Lewis.

In my conversations with them (MXA) and Dirt Rider they both have been very receptive to the idea of having a 250F shootout with the 2 strokes included (More so in MXA's case, DirtRider while receptive in face to face conversations, and in e-mail, it comes off more as lip service).

Anyhow, I will say keep an eye out in the near future for something like this from MXA.

I think the contributing editors, like Jody, have some of the same desires as the readers, but there is some reason they haven't pitted either a 150/ 250 2-stroke against the 250Fs in a shootout.

Dirt Action magazine did a 250f test and included the yz144 and Ktm 150. I was hoping they would include the 250's this year but from what I have seen, no luck

Here is the 2008 comparison from MXA. After reading it I had a lot more comments and questions but at least someone did it.

http://twostrokemotocross.com/2008/08/yz250-vs-yzf250-by-mxa/ (http://twostrokemotocross.com/2008/08/yz250-vs-yzf250-by-mxa/)

However, that wasn't the comparison I was looking for. I want to see a shoot out between UN-like bikes. 450 vs 250, or even a 250 vs 125. I would love a 125/150 vs 450F shootout.

Just giving a quick heads up, more reviews (that are more indepth than the last two) are coming, with some shootouts against the 4 strokes.

Expect more from MXA soon, like I said before.
