I raced MX, cross country, hare scrambles, 2 Day Qualifiers and trials over the years. I'm badly injured right now but if everything starts to work again I'd like to do some vintage/Evo class motocross.

I was once near the end of a race, totally wasted and climbing this hill when my Maico 500 shot out from under me, went airborne and sheared this big ,gnarly branch off a tree about ten feet up. Funny thing was that there was no damage to the bike!

Its funny how that happens..recently, I had a friend who broke 6 vertebrate in his neck in a bad wreck, NOTHING happened to his bike except for a slightly bent lever. Another friend just got outta the hopstial with a handful of serious injuries, nothing happened to his bike either.

Haha yeah no kidding! I was planning on racing this past summer but I had to spend a lot of money on my golf tourney entries so i was not able to. I plan on it next summer though! Haha motocross is an expensive sport, especially if your dumb enough to ride a thumper.

Yeah, i race, and am currently preparing for the next season. So long as the rule changes take effect, I can race my YZ 250 in the lites class. That is what I am training for, and to have a real crack next season. Hoping to have some top results.

Oh nice, yeah that would be awesome if you could race ur 250 in the lites! They would be a real threat! You in A class or what?

Yeah cant wait, I know that I am faster on the 250 two stroke over the 250F, even though the 250F is easier to go fast on for longer. I am a two stroke die hard and cant wait to go racing. I race at A grade club level, and B grade on a national level.

I have a good story about a race I entered many years ago.

The race was a hare scrambles event that my friend had put on and I remember the gun going off, dumping the clutch and grabbing gears to the first corner. After a section of tight trail we broke out onto a fireroad and, as I knew the area well, I was able to move up a few positions before arrows lead to another twisty section of trail. As I slammed a corner I saw ribbons and slowed for my first check point.

Imagine my surprise when I discovered my friend, in his wisdom, had decided to man the check points with female strippers! There they were, slathered in bug spray sans clothing, punching rider cards!

The odd thing I remember about this race is that nobody seemed intent on racing. I'd pull into a check point and half the race was there performing some kind of maintenance on their bikes or catching up on the latest gossip. I mean all of this could have been done before or after the race. ;D

HAHA! Your buddy has great humor. I bet guys were definitely taking their time at each checkpoint.

I raced my first race this September. I am also planning on racing the entire spring series in my local area but it is going to be very expensive.
Title: Re: Who races?
Post by: cmiller493 on November 06, 2010, 12:15:10 PM
Yeah no kidding, riding is expensive enough, not to mention racing. Especially when you have nobody to help you out. Im 17 and I have to pay for every single thing that involves motocross. What is gay about my town is it isnt very big so nobody ever rides at our track. My parents wont let me ride alone so I dont get to practice as much as I want, so I dont know if ill race next summer if im not good enough.

yes cmiller493 look in the photo and video section their is a topic with pictures

Title: Re: Who races?
Post by: Hondacrrider on November 06, 2010, 06:11:26 PM
Oh... ya, my parents don't pay for much either, they will pay for my basketball and track and field no problem. Although they are willing to pay for some of the travel involved because it can be a vacation for my dad(new lakes to explore and fish) and new malls for my mom and sister. I think that you should find some buddies who ride, do you have your drivers license? If not, get it right away, offer to anyone who rides a ride to the track, so you can get to the track a bunch, motocross in my opinion is all about seat time.
Title: Re: Who races?
Post by: cmiller493 on November 06, 2010, 06:36:12 PM
Haha yeah im almost 18..in kansas we get our drivers license at 16. Its the fact that nobody in my town rides motocross. Everybody here thinks the sport is gay. My friends give me shit because I ride, they think I need to focus on golf to get to a good college, haha i'd rather ride mx.
Title: Re: Who races?
Post by: cmiller493 on November 06, 2010, 07:58:05 PM
I put in as much work as I can at the track. When nobody is there I work on corners a lot. Our track isnt very good but atleast it is a place to ride.
Haha I know this isnt the video section but I thought I would just put that on here rather than start a new topic. I KNOW I SUCK! haha any tips will be appreciated. It was really windy that day (of course, haha its Kansas) so I wasnt doing a couple jumps.

Dude that is awesome, cant wait to see that beauty! That would be awesome if you raced a couple nationals, the more guys qualifying at the national level the more the factory guys are going to see that 2 strokes are the SHIT! Hope your femur heals up, and turning the big 30? You old fart! Hahaha jk good luck next summer man, keep us posted!

Thanks, the 2 guys that work on the track are both injured and cant work on the track so it has kind of gone to dumps but once spring comes we'll be able to get it back in shape. They are going to teach me how to run the bobcat and tractor so I can do some of the work also.

Post by: eprovenzano on November 07, 2010, 07:38:06 AM
I used to race MX back in the day, (35 years ago).  I was planning on running a few scrambles this year, but I was working as a software consultant and was out of town Monday through Friday for 6 months.  When I was home I had other duties that needed tended to...  so no racing this year.

I plan on getting into a few next season nothing serious, just for fun.  My goal is to finish, and fininsh in one peice, both me and the bike. I plan on the race being more a "ride" at a location I wouln't normally get to ride.   To accomplish my gosl, I've started to workout some in preparation for next season, but I need to step it up a lot....  I picked up some weight while working out of town, (too much fast food), so I need to get shed some of this excess...  but Ill be ready.

I race 250C. In my town MX is very popular. Everyone at school owns and wears fox (even if they dont ride) or alpinestars. It is a very competitive C class haha.
Title: Re: Who races?
Post by: cmiller493 on November 08, 2010, 05:18:42 AM
Wow, must be nice, I wish more people in my town would ride, I cannot count how many times I have been riding at the track by myself haha. It gets scary because here in Kansas it gets pretty windy so I'm always worried ill get in a bad wreck and nobody will be there.
Title: Re: Who races?
Post by: eprovenzano on November 08, 2010, 06:10:52 AM
If you are the only one at the track, take advantage of it and practice starts, turns, changing lines, turns, & turns...  Don't do anything you're not comfortable with jump wise.  Take advantage and practice the "boring" stuff...  you'll be amazed how you can lower your lap times when you can turn make the bike turn instead of following the rest of the crowd and the one "good" line.  They'll be amazed how you were able to blow right by them.  Learn how to stay in the meat of the power and not have to feather the clutch (as much).  Work on the same turn until you can "nail" it everytime.  Then string several turns together and ride them until you can ride them without a mistake.  Once you've mastered them, go back and run different lines...  you never know in a race, when your line is taken, and you need to be creative.

Yes I am Michael Heingartner, the legendary Fat ass, HAHA.

But I am on a quest to lose 80 pounds, and race some Nationals for shits and giggles, no real goals, just to do it and have fun.

I also plan to do a half ironman triathlon next year, I did one last year a sprint and it was fun, but I am getting a much better road bike, and its just a goal of mine to do.

Ill get some bike photos this week if I can, I am on a crutch still for another few weeks, so I cant really get it outside to take sweet photos, but Ill see how good of ones I can get inside garage.

I do not have any of that action on video, which sucks, I do have some photos though, but I have nothing of the almost totally naked one at the Chicago AX a few years ago, open faced only had boxers, knee pads, and boots on, and jumped the big finish line jump gooning, hah!

Why do you want to lose weight? That's not necessarily always good. What you want to do is slim up. Since muscle weighs more than fat, you may only lose 40-50 pounds but look really good.

In motocross you don't want a whole lot of muscle mass... you want small amounts of super dense muscle

I raced NETRA Junior Enduros and NESC motocross in New England from '81 to '85, and got out of it for 21 years.  Started back up when I turned 40 in '06, been doing the Maine Motocross Series in the 40+ C class ever since.  The Maine National Enduro went right by my house this year, definitely got the itch to get back in the woods.....  The trusty '98 YZ250 is more than adequate for both at my skill level!!

I need to lose weight cause I weigh pretty much 300 lbs. right now, I have gained 30 since I got hurt in spring, I have not been able to do hardly anything for 7 months, can finally go to town on a stationary bike now so gradually doing more each week.

I just bought a high end recumbent bike, like one at a gym, so I can go longer my current one sucks ass, so this will help.

I do think I am the fastest fat ass out there though, LOL.

PS - I hope to get some of my bike porn photos up here by the weekend ( AKA tricked out RM250 ), so everyone can have a badass background, HAHA!

You should play some hoops to loose the weight Mike. I,ve seen people loose alot of weight playing full court hoops. I threw down a powerful tomahawk dunk, 2 weeks ago on a concrete tiled flour. So I,m thinking of playing d.3 hoops in 3 years. My trucking weight is 178 , 6,2 barefoot if I make myself tall and get a lump on my head on the measuring stick haha. I tried to get down to 167 for this past summer,if was tough to get rid of the upper body muscle. From oral surgery I got down to a scarry 162, I was pigging out on fish and wasn,t putting weight on, so eat fish if you want to drop pounds Mike. I,m in ILinois for orientation, I had a physical skills test today, likting weights, cardio, etc. 1.75 hrs. with a heart monitor on, then a dot cdl physical, rode test, tons of paper work and testing on hazmat, etc.  I  raced though the 90,s into 2002, then a serous back surgery, then back riding in 06. This past summer I quit trucking, to race, focusing on the vet national classes 40 a,35a it didn,t turn out, 20k plus in debt  so now I have to stay out trucking till March, I plan on taking time off in Florida at least once. Next year I might race Millville once, in 2012 more races but just for fun. I,m not quiting a job to race ever again, my speed is top 3 vet expert  with 4 years off a bike and my 1st ride, which don,t mean nothing I just ride for the feeling anyway and don,t care about results.

Well right now and for the last 7 months been on and off crutches cause of femur, so that hasnt helped anything, finally able to ride a stationary bike now for longer then 10 minutes, and using a total gym 2 times a week, and doing some stuff with 20 lb. dumbells, up to 20 minutes now on bike, go to doctor in a week and a half, so if Im cleared to not use crutches I can really start pushing it then.

And my diet is horrible, I have no control, lol, and we eat out a bunch at work, and its not good stuff, so thats my biggest issue right now is getting that under control, I have gotten better with portion size, now just need to eat better food.

I got to this size about 8 yrs ago after high school, then lost 85 pounds so I know what to do, just a matter of making myself do it and resist the temptation called yummy food, LOL

Never raced a bike before. In fact I've only managed to not fall off my kx the last couple of times I've ridden it.

I have entered a hare scrambles today in the novice class. Is I think 25 mins, which should be about 5 laps of a 2 mile track. If I can get 3 out I'd be stoked (you have no idea emmuch I suck) Is at a place just outside binghamton NY, probably 20-30 mins from broome-tioga, run by these guys http://www.squaredealriders.com/ (http://www.squaredealriders.com/)

So, looking forward to this :)

I used to compete in club level car stuff in oz, this in comparison is cheap. Would cost about 180 a year for a rally licence, entry fee for a supersprint (race track, 3 hot laps and in - maybe get 4-6 sets) would be anywhere from 200-300 bucks, plus fuel to get to the track , fuel to run the car, and bare minimum I would be out 400 bucks for 40 mins track time. A run at wakefield park (involving a motel room) would see no change from 600.

Rallies were 150-350 and invariably in the middle of nowhere, so fuel to get there (in oz it is about 5-6 a gal) was tough, usually need to factor in a night of accom and if you are doing a 200 mile rally, the rally car would chew a wad of fuel too - was getting say 16mpg on the transport and well under 10 on the specials. Could usually con the nav to pay half the entry fee, but probably 600-900 an event not including consumables like brakes and tyres gets real damn expensive. This is all at a club level. I crew with a guy racing australian formula 2, he budgeted 1k a round to go circuit racing in the state series. when he raced national stuff, he'd budget 20k a year - that was 8 years ago too - would no doubt be more than that now.

So, 25 to nominate for a class sounds great to me! just need to not fall off :p they have an 8 round winter series. Should keep me busy if I get a few rounds in.
Title: Re: Who races?
Post by: cmiller493 on November 14, 2010, 04:42:08 AM
Sounds expensive! There is a really good A-Class rider in my town who recently stopped racing to get into car racing but I have a feeling he is going to stop that pretttty quickly once he finds out he does not have the $$ for it. Good luck at your race, let us know how it goes!

I,m in Lincoln Nebraska for the 2nd orientation, the 1st one was in Ilinois. I got a 2010 prostar Internation 2010 truck, it only has 115,ooo miles on it. A mechanic in Il. told me sign this, I told him sure when I look the truck over 1st, it,s a paper that you list all the scratches, damage, etc. you miss something and they,ll say that you did it. The truck had very bad wear on the steer tires, I told him that I prob.won,t make it to Chicago without blowing a steer tire and that new tires need to be thrown on. So I get new tires, with no alignment, I,m told the alignment will be done in NE., so I go to Chicago and then to Nebraska for orientation #2, there was about 3,4 inches of snow on the gground in western Iowa, they got 5.5 in. in a little storm. They put me in hotel for 2 days here, there,s a military base across the street, mon. 3 fighter jets took of there practicing aircraft carrier launches, very cool and one great way to start a day for the pilot that is. Later
