Title: GAS GAS 250 or 300
Post by: Harley Elliott 594 on April 25, 2011, 09:05:14 AM

300 for sure. However, both bikes would be good either way.

Having ridden both I'd opt for the 250 Gasser. The 250 is more "revvy" while the 300 is more of a midrange motor.I've heard very good things about the Husky 300 and personally I would choose a 320 Maico as it has a stellar powerplant. ;D

As Sachs said the main difference is the 250 you need to rev more.
The 300's have alot of mid range power.
Both good options just depends on how much you want to twist your right wrist. ;D

A guy on my local dual sport forum has a 2011 GG 300 that he dual sported. It's really nice. He is a bigger guy so he loves the 300.

This is what we need to do. Forget the four stroke only company's and buy a new two stroke. You would be suprised how well made some of these smaller company's bikes are. One of the guys around here races a Gas Gas 250 in the A class 250 and 450 and wins most of the time.

This is a tough descision if you don't race, so you don't have to concider the class cylinder capacity.
I really love the Six-Days EC models from GasGas.
I'm also starting to orientate a bit in this segment of 2 Stroke enduro's.
GasGas has a 6 speed gearbox wich is a big plus. And overall it's cheaper than the competition, albeit in most countries... Altho the Husqvarna wich was already mentioned has sometimes great price deals on their WR models. But i don't know exactlty how many gears it's got...? I recon 5.
So yea the GasGas EC is a great package for it's money, but can be difficult to choose the cc's i understand...
I also think the 250 will be more hi-strung or revvy, and the 300 more luggable and wider/broader engine characteristic.

Is it possible for you to test them both? Maybe it makes your choice much easier...

He races scrambles.

In my opinion...

If your a lugger the 300 is the steed of choice, lots of low to mid power.  If you like to wring it out, the 250 is the way to go..  I'm somewhere in the middle, I love tuff technical single track, so my trusty 300 is just fine with me... If you can ride a 300 like a 250 or 125...  well you are a much better rider than me...  (of course that's not saying much...   ;D)

IMO it depends on how big you are, how you ride, and what you ride. I rode the 250 and it has PLENTY of power with a very smooth spread from bottom to top. It easily pulled my (at the time) 220lb ass down/up the trail at break neck speed in a particularly hilly part of Alabama. I didn't ride the 300 so I couldn't tell you how it performs. But the 250 has a great motor, great suspension, great gearing, retardedly good brakes, fantastic details, the only thing I didn't like was the handle bar bend. Very straight.

I race enduro and harescrambles and I'm 5 10 and weigh t 190 and I like to pin it wide open but in tight stuff. I like to kinda keep it in bout 2nd or 3rd gear since I'm not an a or b rider so I'm not like killer fast ... yet

based on your post, I'd go with the 250.  If you try to keep the 300 pinned, it could get ugly... fast....   :P  Most top level riders prefer the 250, and many prefer the 200.  They can rev the crap out of them and toss them around...

if it were me and Gas Gas still had a 200 that's what I'd get. The 250 is the cats ass.

Yeah if there is a lot of the tight stuff a 200 or 250 sounds like the best option.

If you can't choose between the 250 and 300, the 200 might be a great bike.
Concidering the fact that some people say a 200 is the ultimate universal woods weapon. ;)

is the six days and the normal one the same bike just the six days has lights and is street legal? you could get it and take off all the street stuff and sell it on ebay? otherwise just go for the 250

It's a two stroke man, what could they have possibly done to make it less performance oriented? Lean jetting, ignition box, a bunch of turn signals, a chain guard, license plate bracket? Strip it , get the dual program BLACK BOX, or get them to order the standard race version. Those guys in Ga are great guys, they were the ones that had the demo ride setup at the Gobbler Getter, they'll get it for you if you want it.

It would be cheaper and quicker to ask them to just convert it to the race version.

DirtBikeSupply may have something your looking for.  They are a new GG dealership in Pelham, AL.

I checked their web site but, it doesn't show their inventory.  >:( You would probably have to call them.

Harley,
non of the GasGas EC's are street legal, just some states are really easy to get plates for and you can sneak some dirtbikes through. in USA trim you dont get the turn signals and other stuff that is shown in the picture in an earlier post. i have a 2010 GasGas EC250 and i can tell you it is every bit if not better than the KTM offroad models, ive had 3 ktms in the last few years myself.
