Title: Need help with tire selection...!
Post by: YZ250 on July 28, 2010, 05:34:01 PM
I was wondering what would be a good front tire for wet conditions but can still be used for everyday kind of riding? Because the tire I have now is great for normal dry conditions but it is the worst for wet/ mud. and when i say bad i mean BAD. Because of my front tire being stupid, it resulted in the dent I got on my pipe at the track when my front tire slipped out from under me as i hit a mud section. It's pissing me off because I like to go on rain rides in the trails sometimes but i don't trust my traction. plz suggest...

My favorite is the Michelin M12 front with an S12 rear. The S12 front is good in the goo but doesn't cross over well to hardpack like the M12 does.Having said that, never use an M12 rear-pos imo.Interestingly, the S12 rear is my favorite while the M12 rear is my most hated tire.Go figure.A dunlop 756 front is also a good universal tire. The 756 rear is good too but the performance drops quite fast as the edges wear a little.

Is it still possible to buy a Metzler, or has The King gone out of bidness?

EDIT: Yay, they're still at it!  Don't know how they stack up, but at least it's nice to know the Big Name from all the old magazines still exists.  And once again, for emphasis, I have no idea if these are good tires or not.

The S12 is quite good, I have that on one of my bikes.  Another tire I tried recently which I've so far had good in both wet and rocky conditions is the Maxxis Desert IT 120.
