Title: Rm 250 - 2004 Project / bike finished 2013-02-18
Post by: Wangen on January 19, 2013, 10:37:05 AM
[/color]Hi!
Im Christopher from Sweden.
In october I bought a Suzuki RM 250 - 2004 it seemed like it was in a good condition, but it wasnt.
Went to a local track and drove 2 laps den overshot a jump and hit the ground hard and after that my gearbox was broken?!
Went back to the garage and start to tear it apart.
At first the plan was to just fix the gearbox and then drive it like a maniac.
But somehow it escalated quickly.

Started by stripping it down to the frame.

Got help by a guy who could blast the frame for me, this is the results.

Then he powder coated the frame, went halv matte black. Was really happy with the results.

Took the engine apart to see what was wrong. Checked the clutch at the same time, looked ok.

The bearings was in a really bad condition so changed them aswell.

Found the problem with my gearbox, ordered a new one. Notice this was in October 2012

At the same time as I ordered a new gear i ordered new crank and bearings. arrived after a month or so. Still no gear...

Put everything I had together, a new Hots Rods crank and new bearings.

Back to the frame, couldnt do anything more to the engine since my gear still havent showed up (January 2013)

Started assemble it. (notice my brothers dog in the background his name is Zombie) He loves to be in your lap when you try to put something together.

Renovated arm.

The rearframe put together. New bearings in everything.

Starts to look like a bike again, the fork is new renovated aswell.

Needed som motivation so I put it together to see how it will look like.

So right now I am waiting for my gear, STILL... 4 months still no gear. Carbonfibre framecover and a new saddle.
Im thinking of ordering Warp 9 rims but I cant make up my mind. its so much money just for bling bling in my case.

2013-01-26
The gear has arrived, got tired of the guy that i ordered from the first time. Called another company and got it the next day.
So im hoping to get it going this weekend.
Picked up some other stuff at the same time, as usual you cant leave the shop with just one thing...

Also bought framecovers in carbon. Think the bike looks more factory with it.

Sorry for my bad English.

Make sure you loctite number 26 in the picture.
It holds the selector spring in place.
They come loose and the gear selector bounces between 2 gears and blows the gearbox. :(

Nice looking ride.

Thank you for the info. But that was not the problem this time, its to far from the gear that is broken.

Haha Zombie is awesome! Is Pug your dog? He needs a ski outfit because my garage is really cold in the winter.

Where did you order the gear from?
I ordered the gear from a friend that will take it home to me but Im getting pretty tired of waiting cause thats the only thing that is remaing to get the bike going. Ill give him one more week and then Ill call someone else. ( he gives me an awesome discount on everything I buy) But sometimes its not worth it.

Looks really nice!  :)

Actually this is an 2002 or older. You have the KYB/Kayaba suspension. 2004 Suzuki got the Showa 47.
You would noticed that when you assembled the forks?

Suzuki has used Showa for many years before -04 and still does.. I think he just got KYB stickers on the original fork.. Does'nt matter for me, still think the bike looks awesome! Good work Wangen!

Eller ska vi ta det på svenska? Snygg hoj! 8) Kolla gärna in mitt projekt, RM144cc!  :)

yes but the rm 250 has Kyb till 2003. Then they switched to showa.
Google rmz 250 showa or something you see the difference on the forks, and the shock :)
tar gärna det på svenska om du vill det!  ;)

Tack, svart plast bak är påväg nu också. Även lite annat bling bling. Inte orkat lägga upp allt jag gjort med hojen. Den ser och är precis som en ny cykel :)

Sorry Tomp, got it checked now! Suzuki used Kayaba on RM250 2001-2003, rest of the years the used Showa..  ;)

Men på den 03an jag ägde för några år sedan satt det Showa, men det var nog tidigare ägare som bytt.. De bedriver nämligen en fjädringsverkstad nu så det var nog troligtvis så..  :)

Nice to see some swedish people here.
So i ordered more stuff today, hourmeter, stuff so that my fatbar will fit my new clamp, and some yellow hose and just some small stuff that i need for this season.

Gött att se lite svenska gubbar här :)
Beställde lite smågodis idag, timräknare, nya fästen till min svarta styrkrona, lite gula slangar och lite saker jag behöver för säsongen.

Hittade en bild från när jag precis köpt hojen
And old pic of the bike and my car.

So I wasnt satisfied with the bike, so I ordered some black plastic to the rear.
And polished my silencer a bit, just to have something to do.

I got the rearfender but im waiting on my number plates.
So this is how the bike looks like right now.

Do anyone have a exhaust system to a RM250 please contact me, I want Pro circuit or HGS...

The frame is powdercoated black. The rims are in good condition so I dont want to destroy them.
Was thinking of buying Warp9 rims.
