A few months ago, i had a problem in my engine that caused some internal gears to grind away part of my engine casing. this resulted in loads of tiny metal filings floating around in my engine oil. my mechanic said that i have to keep changing the oil until all the metal filings were gone. so for six months now i have been draing my oil every other ride and throwing new stuff in. this is rather expensive even when you buy the cheap oil and it's annoying. so i had heard of magnetic oil drain bolts and that got me thinking, instead of buying one becuz i have no money, would it be possible to weld a small magnet on to my drain plug? this would aid alot in getting the metal filings out of my engine if i could do it. any suggestions?

You could probably do that, but you can get those for like $10-$15 bucks you gotta have that laying around.
My dad owns a small shop, and he has several companies that we can get them for that or less cost.

Just buy one. You cant weld a magnet.
You could drill a hole on the inside of the plug and glue a magnet in.

I have a magnetic on my YZ 125, good investment for any bike. It is a cheap piece of mind. Just remeber that alluminum is not magnetic and a lot of parts that can come apart are just that.
Keep in the routine of changing the oil as fregquently as your wallet allows. :)

If you mess with it make sure the magent can't come off and get in the gears!
also, generally as people say there is a hole drilled in and the magnet is a cylinder, this allows it to collect more than just a small magnet on top of the bolt and keeps the current of oil from pulling the pieces back into the waters since they are tucked inside the bolt.
