Title: Suspension Discussion thread.
Post by: Sapper on December 13, 2012, 04:30:56 PM
Please no arguments.... just personal experiences. :)
But my question is, How many are able to get Nitrogen for their rear shocks? I'm stuck using air. Since my compressor goes up to 175psi, I can easily hit he 142psi the shock requires. I just can't bring my self to get the Motion Pro tool for $350+, not including the cost of a small tank and regulator...another $200.
Also, your dealings with the oils. What have you found to be good. I use Amsoil Shock therapy mostly or Silkolene. Right now, in a pinch, I put maxima in the 250 rear shock.

How often do you change the oils? I do mine about every 4 months or so on the boys 125 and 250.

A lot of people just a hit a weld shop up and get a refill for like $40.

Funny timing. I'm just writing a long thread for another forum on my experiences with suspension tuning, and oil viscosity. Maybe I'll post it here when I'm done. The oil you use, and it's viscosity is absolutely critical to getting your suspension to work correctly. I would say that it is as important as spring rate.

If you use air helium will migrate through your bladder and contaminate your oil.

my suspension dude was adamant about using excellent oil in the rear. Was about 60 bucks worth of ohlins oil in the rear. The fronts, not so much of a big deal, maxima fork oil. But the spendy stuff went in the back.

As long as the reservoir has a shrader valve (and you know how much pressure you want)I refill your shock with NITRO for $ 15.00 :-*

I still do KTM suspension(no mods except bladder in the shocks)
I am using Golden Spectro oils.

Shock oil I wouldn't use anything but the most expensive oil possible. As for the forks totally running ATF right now, should be nice and clean once I change it lmfao.  ;D

Many tire stores are now carrying Nitrogen and will charge your shock.

I've tried 2 places so far and the highest either machine could push is 90psi. I need 142. I have one more place to try. Gonna go there this week and try.

I believe refrigeration companies have high pressure N.
