Title: rm125 reeds.... blue backing piece?

The reeds on my 05 rm125 had a blue plastic piece between the reed and metal backing plate. I don't think it's stock from looking at oem schematics. Whats it for?

I would guess it would make the reeds stiffer. It covered about the lower 1/3 of the reeds.  Any idea why it would be used?

It makes them snap back quicker which I would assume makes for better throttle response, but it can be for other reasons.
