Title: Daytona Amateur Supercross
Post by: luthier269 on March 07, 2011, 08:39:21 PM
Hello everybody
We went to our first Daytona Amateur Supercross! Had a blast the weather held up and had a really good time. We were told there was about 900 racers from 50cc to 50 year olds. Got there on Saturday for sign up after standing in line for two hours we were signed up. By the way I thought the AMA did a great job with all the riders. Our first time using a transponder and they work great. Two mins. after the race you can get a print out of you  lap by lap with lap times along with everyone else in your race.
On Sunday we started practice at 7:00 am Jakes class 250C had about 75 riders. Three heats and taking only the top 8. Jake was the first heat the computer picked your number to pic your spot on the line Jake was second from last. He was on the out side of the first turn side of the gate. Got an ok start, also for those of you that don't know Jake rides a 2001 CR125 with a Eric Gorr 134 bore The oldest bike I saw. On the start he was 13th out of 28 riders 2nd lap 12th,3rd lap 9th, last lap 10th, We did'nt qualify :(  but still ran good and were fairly pumped. So off to the LCQ 2nd out to pic starting spot next to the box this time. The LCQ is only three laps Gate drops and Jake got pinched off in the first turn then later in the first lap two riders go down in front of him in a corner and he got stuck behind of them race over he finished 17th. By the way that was at about 4:30 pm.

Great job.  I know he may have not gotton the results he wanted, but just the fact that he was there putting in the laps, has to bring a smile to his and your face.

It looks like it was fun.

It looked like a great time! Do they tame the track down or is it the same exact set up as the Pros?

I would have way rather watched those races than the pros.

They tame the track down, they have to they have 50's running on the track. After the pro race we were let on the track belive me the pro's are awsome I don't know how they go so fast on that track. The jump that only Stewart was clearing was at least 8 to 10 feet tall and nearly straight up you could not walk up the face with out a rope!

Yes, they chopped the track down and yes the amatuer races were very good to watch. Even though I won't make it past the LCQ I may ride it next year. The pro race was awesome and our kids got to meet Stewart & get pix and autographs which was cool. When we watched the races in the morning we were suprised at how competitive it was. A lot of those guys really wanted the transfer spot. We were going to watch a few heats beore heading home and ended up watching about 15. Pro races were predictable but these had the big action.

Also on Saturday night when Villapoto did his burnout we were standing right there. We saw ourselves on speed channel when we got home Sunday. Also cool. 8)
