Ricky rode a two stroke the way it was meant to be raced. Watch his style, he didn't care where the back tire was as long as he was moving forward. I think one of Ricky's best attributes (IMO) was/is his ability to pick lines. He has the ability to pick a different/new line and make it work. With the smoker, he did not have to follow the "traditional" line. He was able to work other lines, make the bike turn inside of the others, and then spray them with the sand. Plus, I think we may have forgotten just how good he really was. I love to watch him when the rear is swapping and he never let off the gas. He knew that if the front tire was planted, and he was moving forward, the rear would follow.
Ye ricky sure did know how to ride that two stroke but I gotta say Everts rode that four stroke like he was made for it. True four stroke rider, controlled and yet still absolutely flew on the thing.

I agree... this is when the development of the bikes were about on the same level... I think its evident on the track where each style bike had strengths and weaknesses. This is where the racing gets even better, not only is it based on the talent of the rider, but on the bike he's on. For example I thought Ricky's smoker had an advantage on the sand, as he was able to get on top of the sand, except going up the mountain of sand, that is where I felt Everts' stroker had an advantage. This is what made the racing interesting and fun for both the fans and the riders.
