Title: Can Fouled plugs still spark when taken out?
Post by: Braap257 on August 18, 2010, 10:47:46 AM
Just curious, As a couple of days ago i changed the oil in my bike. And started it up and just let it run for about two minutes since it had been sitting a while. But the trouble is that i shut it off. And later it wouldn't start back up. It had fuel. So i pulled the plug out it was a light brown and it was wet. "I know that means too rich. I'm still working on that"  But when i plugged it into the boot and kicked over it sparked pretty good? Can it still be fouled???

I didn't know they would carry the right ones. In that case i will pick up a few, so i can have spare ones for jetting  :)

Yep get a BR8ES or B8ES. No need for the expensive EG series.

Yeah true that, you can get 3 for the price of 1.

Run the cheaper plug until you get the jetting right.

I use the BR8EIX plug and it lasts alot longer then the cheaper one's.
I dont foul plugs tho.

When my plugs foul, I just dip mine in clean gas, wipe it off really good with a wire brush, then with a cloth, then I take a torch and burn it for about 30 seconds, and it's just like new again.

Fouled plugs often have an erratic blue spark or a white spark.

My '98 YZ250 will occasionally foul a plug within 30 seconds of a cold start, and that plug will never work again.  It may start after a good cleaning, but will always foul again right away.  Even when jetted correctly, this bike has always been very sensitive to plugs - it will sputter and cut out with an ES, but if I take it out and put in an EG with no other changes it runs perfectly.  I bought an Iridium to try, but haven't fouled the EG that has been in there all year, so I haven't tried it yet.

I love the Irridiums from NGK. I am always trying something new and thought plugs were plugs, I've tried all the BOSCH lines to those split fires and never really noticed a diference till I tried the Irridium about 6 yrs ago ofcourse they were like 12 bucks a piece the but now they are down to about 5 bucks, never ever fould one worth every penny and it feels like 1 extra horse power.

Yes, since the (basically air, even in the cylinder) gap's resistance to arcing increases with increasing (air)pressure. -Think compression.

That would only flood a 4-stroke with an accelerator pump on the carb, shouldn't hurt a 2 stroke at all.

Is he always pushing the kicker down to feel the compression? :)
