Digging the tusk wheel set as well, and I'm completely shocked by what you're getting for $500. Probably my next or second buy.

I've heard some talk about how they're heavier. I think that's a plus for off-road. More material the harder it should be to hurt them? If they are a little heavier is that really going to effect a track rider?

doubtful, especially on the amatuer level.

I want to see the scales before we make those assumptions haha. Another idea is that weaker rims will weigh less due to less material? Which would make sense on modern 4 strokes due to weight shavings to the extreme.
