Title: Jonny Aubert ECC RM250 restoration (IRIN Program)
Post by: redrider611 on January 16, 2011, 11:06:54 PM
As some of you may know, I built a really trick CR125 former works bike last year.
Since then, I have set up a program for local (south TX) injured riders. The program is called IRIN (Injured Riders In Need) I am restoring bikes from the frame up and they get sold by raffle or auction. All the profits go to injured riders. I am working on getting completely set up for non profit but good ole uncle sam is a PAIN to deal with. I must say, I am shocked at the awesome support I receive from major companies on these builds.

I would like to send out a HUGE thanks to the following companies.
Pivot works
Namura Pistons
Shift racing
All Balls bearings
Hot rods
Galfer braking
FMF
Moto hose
Kent power sports
Decal Works
H-E-L brakes
RK chain

With that being said, I am now doing one of Jonny Auberts 2004 RM250 ECC bikes. I am not building it as it was, it is being done a major twist.

Here is where I am at with it so far. I will keep the thread updated as I work on it.

That is where I am at with it right now.

I hope to have the spokes in this week so I can lace up the wheels.

Still need a pipe and a good swingarm for it.

wow thats an impressive rebuild of a great bike.
Do you have any of the original works parts?

Sadly, ECC put a stock motor in before it left the shop :(
However, the susp internals have been worked on some and I have the works pipe built by FMF for it.
I thought it was really rare that ECC left the # plates on it though.   :D

Are those engine cases powdercoated?

I didnt figure you could do that to those, but they look like it.

Also the linkage part, anodized or powdercoated??

That blue with the white and black looks freaking sweet.

No, they are not. I always the cases the apart ans soda blast them. I then pressure wash them real good. Once they dry good I will mask off all gasket areas and clear coat them.

Frame is base coat / clear coat.

everything else is anodized and hardcoat anodized.

in my opinion thts not a bike to ride, thats a bike for window shop.

i made somthing like that with my bike too

and when you ride it all the hard work goes in vain

The bike will be sold bu raffle and all the profits go to local injured riders. If some bought 200 worth of tickets and they won I am sure they would just sell it or run the crap out of it.  ;D

Got the Proof for graphics today. I worked with Matt Sheldon at decal works. He is a great guy.

I also have pre printed backgrounds with Jonny's name and AMA #

Thanks man. I seem to mass produce them. Usually 80% of the time I am ok, however there are some days I cant hardly move. It is no fun but oh well. Need to focus on moving forward and helping others.

Man I really like the Hard anodizing on the suspension, I want to get mine done SO bad.
I want to get the inner fork tubes and shock shaft plated with that super smooth stuff too. But that's alot of money for performance I don't need at my level.

The economy makes it tough for sure. However, on the IRIN bikes I have alot of support from companies so it helps a ton.
