Post by: Finnfly75 on August 21, 2010, 01:58:55 AM
Hello Everyone!

Here is my recent bike, Suzuki RM 250 09 model, driven round 35hours.

Love that bike, the best bike I have driven so far. I have had KTM 300 EXE 07 and KX 250 "Monster" 08 model also but those have not been even close to the RM I have now. I also have one Yamaha 450  :-X
But I like the 2 stroke a alot comp my 4 stroke.

Sorry about my english :) Its not perfect....but I bet you cant speak any finnish LOL

Anyway I am new here and like the site alot, I am looking for new pipe for my RM also, if you have some recommendations please feel free to advise....I drive 90% Motocross tracks, no trails.

Thanks,
Tony

Finnfly75 welcome to the forum!!

Your English is better than many people that only speak English! Great job!

It's awesome that you have a 2009 RM250! I guess they are still available in Europe, that's great news!!

For the pipe recommendation, what are you looking for?? More top end? More mid-range?

I know that the folks over at HGS make a fabulous pipe... you may want to give them a call or e-mail. They are located in Holland.

Oh yeah... nice looking bike!

Thanks a lot for everyone.

Well I am looking for pipe that would give me more punch on low end without loosing the hit on top, I just love that power on top end. That what these bikes are all about. ( for my mind )

But I would like to have more instant pull from very low, when you drive on 2nd and 3rd gear on corner and pull out...that where I would like to have more power.

I had on my KTM Fmf Gnarly, but it did kill some of the power on top and I did not like that even that bike was enduro bike, that I used on trails etc.

The KX I had for 2 weeks I had Pro Circuit pipe, but cant really say anything about that cause that bike was just so horrible to drive...it was crap, starting from suspensions. Horrible ride..so I sold that after 5 hours of driving....and got my RM.

But as I said earlier I am very happy for my Suzuki but as you all know we always want to try something new  :D Does any of you guys have VForce3 valve reeds on your 250, and what do you think of that.

Thanks alot,
Tony

What year is that kx250.  I just bought a 2006 kx250 and i was wondering what is wrong with the bike that you had.  Ive heard that the suspension is kind of messed up and its hard to keep it in the power band.

Finnfly, welcome. Some times and i tell people this quite often the stock pipe and silencer work the best. You might try one tooth more on the rear sprocket.A shorty silencer with stock chamber might work also.It is a matter of finding the combo that suits you best.Keep us posted on your findings.

The stock pipe is good thats true and Im not sure buying a another pipe would really make that big of a difference, that was the reason why I asked you guys also.

My KX was 08 model, and I never got that suspension working. The front was so horrible to drive that It was unreal and the delivery of the power was not good ether. That bike was only driven 28h!!!
Then again I know some of my friends that really like KX...but over all if I have to compare that against my RM, everything is so much better, how you sit on the bike, how it balanced and how the suspension is. Something that is good for me might not be good for someone else, right.

Well its not my headache anymore, thank god.

I have the VForce 3 on my '01 KX 250, it made a very noticeable difference in power delivery, the throttle response was good before with the stock reed cage and boyesen reeds, but it is even more snappy now withe the VForce 3, I like the VForce, but there is also the Boyesen Rad Valve that I have yet to try and I know a few guys that have it on their 250's and they really like it!

How did you like that KTM? That was a good looking bike, so was that KX.

Hello Coop.
Well you know that I did not like the KX, but that KTM was nice.
It had lots of power, and the great thing was that I was able to adjust the power by switch and also by springs.
I did made power switch to adjust the ignition curve ( Performance / soft )Normally you have to take off the tank and seat...
Also the auxiliary springs can change lots of the power ( green - soft, Yellow - normal and then RED - most power )
The problem was that the FMF Gnarly and Power Core 2 pipe combo did not work well with green and yellow springs. All the top end power was gone....
But that bike was nice to drive and had lots of power....nice and easy to handle, only thing was that I did not like that big tank. But that was already on 08 and o9 models. I took also the electric start off, lost lots of extra weight.

But if you look for bike on trail riding, I would love to have one of those.
Fast and easy to drive...
Hope that helped :)

Sharp RM man, John,s right about the HGS pipe being  a great pipe. I had one on a 01 RM 125, It was stamped SRS and HGS,also used the SRS piston,FMF ignition made by Wolf-switch on the bars 4 lowto mid and mid to top.

question:

did you set the bike for you?

did the spring rate was for your weight?

also the density of the oil can make the suspension work different

Yes all those things were correct and the way they should, like I have had on my other bikes. I really dont know why the front of that bike was just so bad and it was bouncing uncomfortably. I did try other day one other KX 250 and it was better, but still nothing like RM or YZ suspension...That KX was 08 also and was also little "nervous" from the front and the rider was similar to my size also. ( 6´2" and 215lb)
