Title: Its happened, the garage has a new addition
Post by: Stusmoke on February 12, 2012, 09:27:31 AM
My friends, it has happened. There is now a 2001 YZ 250 sitting in my garage.
My question is: Is it wrong of me to want to put organic reproductive organs in it to have children with it?

No I'm kidding, seriously though, its the best machine I've ever ridden.
Took off in the back yard, hit the powerband and got yelled at by mum for wrecking the lawn  :P
So beautiful to ride... Sure its not much to look at but it pulls HARD! Now I know I said I was in the market for a 125 but the opportunity just jumped up and I took it. You have no idea how glad I am that I did. Anyway I've been talking about it and I finally did it just wanted to let everyone know. Stand up wheelies in top gear? YES PLEASE!!!!!!

She bites, she screams, she pulls and lifts up like paper. Is it a baby? NO ITS MY YZ 250!!!!!  ;D

The good part about living in the woods is my grass is all crab grass  :P So when I tear it up, its like I am using a really powerful rototiller.

That crab grass is a pain in the asss.. hahah that rhymed.... Anyway It came with a soft terrain back tire so shes not hooking up really well on intermediate-hard terrain. I unfortunately used my only good spare tire which was intermediate/hard on my POS CRF250R but Im getting it back soon and Im going to part it out, the engine is utterly shagged. Might tear it down see what I can find thats salvagable, we'll see. Anyway so I'll take the back tire back. IF its the right size, We'll see. It was a dumper though so its probably too shit to be the right size.

Shes stripped of her plastics at the moment. I put my knee through the fuel tank yesterday after hitting a lip on a jump  >:-D The tank was almost full too so my lower body felt like it was on fire for a while.... When I weld the tank back together and get it nice and pretty again I'll post some pics  ;D

Whoa...  :o Through the tank?? How hard did you hit the lip?  :o And how can you weld plastic? I'm not trying to be a smart ass, just curious to know if you found a new way to weld  ;)

there is a such thing as plastic welding, but you'd probably be better off just getting a new tank

I had never heard of it before, but I knew you could melt it back together. Good luck, and show me some pictures of the plastic weld bead, I want to see it  ;D

I think TSM needs to institute a rule...  You can't say I got a new addition with out pics...   ;D  WHERE ARE THE PICS!!!!   ;D  WE NEED PICS...  especially me...  I work on the road all week, and only get to "see" my bike on weekends.  So while on the road, I get my bike fix through this site...  SO POST UP SOME PICS..   8)

Plastic welding is a pain in the ass yeah, put new fuel tanks are like $200. how hard did  I hit the lip? Lets just say I have no Idea how I managed to land my accidental superman  8)
I could easily fake the pictures anyway, and its not like you get lots of people pretending they have another bike. I'll post some of its naked bodess tomorrow

I plastic welded a cracked XR200 tank and I had to use plastic filler rod fashioned from a XR 200 fender to get it to work.I prepped the weld after and it turned out really well - you could hardly tell the tank had been repaired. ;D

I'm trying to post pictures but its saying the uploads folder is full... Please select an different file to upload or something. When I get told how to post photos I'll post them.
Its not really knee sized as such, but its there. I got the sack whack of my life when I got ejected from that bike... both when it DID eject me and when I slammed back down.... So much pain. Anyways if its going to mean the tank is in fact weak in that spot then I will just get a new tank, not happy about it at all but Nothing I can do about it. Haha Just to dig more at the dumpers, When I put my YZ on the stellar stand, shes almost level ( if its in the right spot) but with my neighbour's CRF250R which I'm housing at the moment cos he got a rear flat, poor sod. Anyway when I put it on the stand no matter when you slot it, it leans Riiiight forward till it can't go any further cos of the front tire, go figure. As we all know a CRF250R isn't that much heavier then a 125, its just that a considerable chunk of that total weight is sitting right underneath you. Still can't get over how amazing my bike is through the corners when all I've ever ridden is a four stroke... My first ride on that beast was more fun then all my years of riding four strokes put together. By the way can some people give me some braking tips? I've got a nasty habbit of being a panic braker and I want to get my riding technique as good as possible. I don't race or anything just personal challenges  ;D

Wow  :o I can't believe that happened from your knee.

Yeah it did suck.... alot. I had knee guards on thankfully so I didn't feel anyhting until the fuel started burning my legs amongst other things... Anyway I'm getting it plastic welded on Tuesday and it will hopefully be the last dollar I have to spend on it for a while. First things first, go down and kick the shit out of that lip >:-D

Yeah, when I busted up my foot, the foot peg broke because the back of my boot slammed to hard into it and for some reason it didn't spring back like it should have... Luckily the foot pegs are kind of cheap. Good luck with the weld job.

Thanks mate taking it in today but wont get it back till tomorrow  >:( Oh well, I'll be sure to ask if its just gonna make that spot weak but it shouldn't do. Gonna be pissed if it does cos I'll have to wait for a new tank  >:-D

My welding instructor told me that when a weld is made, it is as strong or stronger if it's done right, because you are fusing the material together and adding some extra, so it should be just as strong for you.

Yes , BUT depending on what you are welding it makes it WEAKER around the weld.

Hahahahaha!!! Heres how the conversation went down at the dealer that reckoned he could weld it.
Mum took it in cos I was at school.

guy at counter: This tank is completely buggered theres no way it can be welded back together.
Mum: Damn thats a shame, I spose we'll have to buy a new one.
Guy at counter: We will be willing to get you one for our import price, you've had a pretty rough trot with bikes (Fucking oath I have  >:-D) so we'll cut you some slack
Mum: How much?
Guy at counter: $597, yeah they're really expensive

Translation: You're an older woman who doesn't know what shes talking about, I can rip you off big time but still make it sound like I was giving you a good deal. Buy my product.

Assholes... Before I got my smoker they tried so very hard to talk me into a TTR-250 too. Only cos they would make money off the maintenance. Well they just lost my business entirely, blatantly lying to an older person just to sell a product is pprreettyyyy low. So Mums going to Toowoomba tomorrow theres bound to be a plastic welder there.

You could "ghetto rig" it. Just take one of those cheap red gas cans and duct tape it to your frame  ;D Just kidding, don't do that. But $600 for a gas tank is crazy...

Hahaha, wrap some wire round it she be right. I've gotta wait 2 weeks for my new gas tank to get here, very very unhappy about that but anyway. Ill post some proper pics of her when shes all back together again

Pictures would be nice  ;D How much did you end up by paying for the new gas tank?  :-X
Title: Its happened, the garage has a new addition
Post by: Stusmoke on February 27, 2012, 07:09:14 AM
$362  >:-D . So pissed about it, between that being a ridiculous price for a hunk of plastic and having to wait 2 weeks? wtf? The markup in Australia for everything is out of control. Thats a GOOD price for here believe it or not. I should've just canceled the order and bought it in from the states. Problem is it might get rejected by customs or massive fees for getting it through or it might be the wrong tank and had to send it back its a possible nightmare.
Although considering that I was off the road for 2 weeks when I had the shitbox cos the sump plug got stuck and I desperately needed to change the oil, then I had to wait another 2 weeks cos I got a flat tire, then another 2 weeks when I discovered the rim was cracked and I had to look around for another one. Got about 2 hours riding before the engine grenaded itself. Good work four strokes, I'm officially going to shit on the Honda CEO's grave. And now another 3 weeks before I'm back on the road... GRRRRRR!! I'm suffering from TSWS. Two stroke withdrawal syndrome, its a brutal illness

Whys that? I'm hoping to have my tank by then. Whats up with your machine? Which by the way is a great YZ. I almost got a 1993 model, yours looks about that?

Thanks  ;D Mine is a '94. And the plastic impeller gear for the water pump seized and striped, which over heated my engine, chipped my cylinder wall, destroyed my piston and cylinder wall, and blew out my base gasket. So I had to send out my top end to be re platted, get all the parts and gaskets in, and put all back together, but the cylinder isn't coming back until March 10th  :( But the whole experienced proved to me how rugged Yamaha is, my bike ran with the blown gasket and blown top end for three miles back to my house. I didn't even know it happened until I saw the steam from the coolant when I parked.

Hahahaha man thats awesome. I remember when my dumper engine died it just stopped dead, it was so quick I didn't even realise until like five seconds afterward. Damn though thats shitty luck. 3 miles... hahaha thats so awesome. the 1990's were the best years for bikes I reckon, both four and two strokes. My XR100R is a 1999 model and it just goes and goes and goes. Only nine more days for you, we should be chewing dirt around the same date  8). I remember when I was riding the dumper also, the engine started steaming. I nearly had a heartattack and was just about ready to drop the bike and head for cover when I realised my coolant overflow tube was melted shut from touching the header pipe, cos four strokes run soooo much cooler then smokers  :P anyway when the pressure had built up it had burst out the side all over my engine which was what created the steam. Scared the shit out of me though

The steam from my bike was coming from the blown gasket spewing coolant onto the header pipe... But I can't wait to get everything reassembled and break it all in. My favorite part of the break in is the balls to the walls run with the WOT  ;D

I got my tank, that was one of the best rides ever... Unfortunately the previous owner (for some bizzare reason) put a dual sport tire on the front.... When riding in soft dirt, that doesn't hook up very well. At all. When I lean't her over a little too far the front just washed right out and I lost my clutch perch screw, it must have been really loose for that to happen. No biggie I've got a cold so I was getting very worn out anyway. Funny, I went back home to take my knee guards off cos they were giving me heaps (I really need some socks) and when I went back down that was when I dumped it, I'm glad it was slow and I'm not out of the game now for a knee injury, that would make me swear alot. Did you get your cylinder today? Its the 9th in Australia

I did  ;D It came in a day earlier. I got it all installed and I was really happy with the work they did, it looked like I took a brand new cylinder out of the box  8) But I still have to lock tight all the bolts and then its break in time  ;D
Title: Its happened, the garage has a new addition
Post by: Stusmoke on March 08, 2012, 12:40:52 PM
Going over the bolts is a tedious process, I wish you luck! I took me a stupidly long time to get my baby back into its proper shape! Between me sucking at using a socket set and the plastics just be a pain in the ass it took me something like 30 minutes. But its all good now, Good luck to you

Thanks man, its only the base and head gasket bolts I have to lock tight, so I shouldn't be that difficult  ;D
