Title: YZ125 barrell
Post by: thorns on May 13, 2013, 12:17:06 AM
Has anyone bought a new barrel for a 08 YZ125 before, or can they be repaired?
Found a bike with a stuffed motor going for cheap and in the owners words it needs the following:

"Needs new barrel and piston as on last ride the ring broke and then scored the bore"

Any idea what a new barrel costs, or a ball park figure to get this up and running assuming the bottom end is all good?
Probably hard to tell, but figured some of you gurus might have a better idea than me.

You shouldn't need a whole new barrel unless something went right through it. Worse case scenario you can have it re-sleeved for around $200 I think. With that, a top end kit for that bike should be about $120 ish depending on who you go with. That will come with new piston, rings, wrist pin, and all the gaskets. To do a quick check of the bottom end condition, try to wiggle the fly wheel. Any movement = blown bottom end bearings.

As above. If it is only scored you just need to get it re Nikalsiled.

Doesn't Athena make a top end for this bike?

Athena has kits, as well as a 134cc kit.
