Hey guys, we have been doing some work to the site. Before we can button up the loose ends we need to do 1 more thing.
As much as I hate to say it, we are going to have to install a new forum.
This will mean the current forum will be gone, including all members and content. :/
But it is a must do. The new forum will be integrated into the main site, and have a single login for everything. Which can be done through facebook, twitter, etc.
We have been exploring options for months, and this is the only stable way to do it.
It will be an entirely new forum, with much more options and a cleaner layout.
We haven't set a date for the upgrade yet, but it will be very soon. More than likely this week/end.
The transition should only take a few hours once started, I hope you guys will come back and join us.
Re-Registration will be a snap and can be done through the new forum/fb/twitter/etc.
Thanks for all the support guys!

count me in fella
-
I can't live without my daily dose of TSM

-
Go ahead man!! why would we not join again!? this is the only place that i can talk about "old technology" without yelling at me and saying that i'm old fashioned.
this forum has been to me like Dr. Phil is to a parson with emotional problems.
Thanks!!
-
Haha, thanks for the support guys. Like I said the forum won't be gone long, and it will be better for everyone in the end.
I hate change more than anyone, but this is required.
-
(throws shop rag on floor. walks off in disgust)
Now that's funny
-
Cool, bring on the new era of TSM!
-
I can't go on my computer with out coming on TSM, so I'm definitely coming back... same name though, I don't want to get confused
-
So are you saying all previous posts will be lost.?
Thats alot of good information.
-
Sounds good to me, I'll definitely rejoin, the more I use this site the more I love it. I keep it open in a tab on my blackberry so I can have a read through or post (such as tonight) with out even having to get the laptop out (I cant wait that long to get my dose of tsm lol).
I hope you do find some way of keeping the old posts though because I found them all really interesting, before I joined I read through almost every post on here.
-
sounds good, i'll be back for sure

I agree there should be some way to archive the data and re-deposit it back to the new forum. Doesn't sound right.

I didn't even know I was ahead of you ford.
Sorry about that.
I wonder which one of us talks the most shit.
-
I wish we could keep all the content guys, I could use the same database if we were just doing a re-install. Using an entirely new forum provider we can't keep anything. It's a pro/con situation. Complete site integration will make us much better place in the future.
Thanks for understanding, you guys are great!

I can't stand facebook over post. I delete people like that. Its so annoying seeing the same person the whole facebook page posting about stupid stuff.

I'll let you catch up.
Only a couple of days to go.
Who does have the most posts.? (I can't be buggered looking.)
Jetz maybe. Oh I do miss the boy wonder.
I would guess the most posts per day would be cnrcpla.
Rambling finished.
-
Also could members who re-register put their age and country on their profile.
It is nice to have a rough idea who you are talking to.
-

Statistics say 5.5 posts per day Anyone got me beat? TMKIWI you have the most posts here, by the way.

good idea kiwi ;-)

I was wondering about good old JETZCorp the other day. Wonder what ever happened to him, he must have had thousands of posts..... Hope he didn't go over to the dark side and get rid of his old Kawi's & Husky's!

I won,t be able to get on the site then, if you say you have to register threw facebook or twitter-for rich folks. I tried to reg. on facebook twice, I never received a password. I,m sure there,s 30% of others that have the same problem. I would keep the registration as simple as possible, with a phone # listed to help people register. Because other older riders are like me, and don,t know squaut about computers. If they get jammed trying to register, they will end up being lurkers-guest. The riders from other countries will never call for help, since there time zone is way off. I was a lurker for over 2 years, because I couldn,t get registerd on this site. If registation is not super basic, there won,t be many folks on the site.

You sound like my dad lol
-
Registration will be as simple as it can be. Standard OR through social sites. Also when you register on the main site it will register you on the forum at the same time.
-
Ok thanks Charles. I,ll be changing my handle then for sure, I chose supertrucker because I used that on pingertalk.com, so the folks from there would regonize me here. But I don,t think the pingertalk folks made it here. Supertrucker is an inside trucker joke, like I tell a nother driver on the cb, that I,m dispatched to run 35 hrs straight in and down and out of the eastcoast. Then he says oh,your dispatch must think your a supertrucker. Drivers singing supertrucker is here to save the day. Or st can backup 2 trucks at once, stories about how st saved Christmas or ran 8 days non stop delivering eggs to the EasterBunny, the stories are endless.

I just had a quick look and Jetz hasn't been on here since July 2011.
1695 posts by the way.
Maybe he had 1 too many shocks blow on his Maico.
-
Lol,maybe-or maybe he got tired of being ripped on whenever he posted about Maico superiority I blame you TMKIWI
Come to think of it, haven't seen opfermanmotors around much either in the last few months.I liked his vintage stuff and projects.
It's nice of you to stop and let me catch up on post counts TMKIWI.Maybe if we ever get a chance to go for a ride together,I'll return the favour.
-
I don't do Disgracebook or Tweeder. Can you get a username and password by going directly through the new forum?
-
Disgracebook haha that,s funny, yeah you have to post 3 pics of yourself on there thrashed out of your mind, running around in your underwear or have pics of you and your girlfriend with black eyes and her with a bun in the oven. B4 you can log on haha.
-
Sounds like I can keep posting!
-
Oh no. Were all going to be noobz again
-
With the new layout it,s difficult to read the post, because it,s faded out to much. The old layout was much better, just saying.
-
Guys, please be patient. This is the standard theme for the new forum update. All of the plugins have to be redownloaded and installed, which is why all the spam has come back. I'm just one person doing it by myself.
-
I'm just one person doing it by myself.
Just like after being married for a few years
Looking good Charles, keep up the good work.Out with the old in with the new. Most of my old posts weren't worth reading anyway.
-
Looks good from here. Nice work Charles
So I guess you were able to switch over with out loosing everything?
-
Old buggers don't like change.
I'm gettin' used to it already

Old buggers don't like change.
And some are older then others.

Lol,true, but the younger will catch up soon enough.

Im lovin the new look, change is as good as a holiday so they say, top work Charles
-
Looking good, yep! I just went through a similar thing with kdxrider.net. Lots of work involved in moving the site and trying to preserve the data. Hats off to ya!

Thanks guys! Didn't get too much done today, but had a great time celebrating my daughter's 4th birthday. I just finished up installing a good anti spam registration mod to get rid of the spam. Ethan layed some spam bans down, If you do see some come through just click the report button. I also installed facebook/twitter integration for registration/login. I know some of you guys don't like them, but social networks are a must. It puts TSM in front of thousands daily. As soon as we get the forum functioning the way we want it, we will work on the layout. Let me know if there are any features you would like to see on the forum and we'll see if we can get them.

Just an idea: What if we could have an open chat kind of thing that all the members online could be a part off? Kind of like something on facebook. That way we can have our off topic rambling on a chat thing instead of on the forum posts and stuff. Just a thought
-
a members map would be cool
-
I'll check out the chat plugins. I'm not sure what you mean by a member map. Something like a searchable member list?
I just fixed the photo/video embed issue.
-
On another forum, http://www.yamahait.com.au, there is a google earth map that you can show your location on

I'm pinned....

I haven't been on the site all weekend, so I didn't know what to expect, but it looks great!!
-
Love it! Now if you could add the smell of premix and a good 2-stroke sound bite, this site would be the ultimate in 2-stroke simulation!
-
Forum is fine, I don't even see a difference. I guess I'm not on here enough!. But I hate the website compared to before. It had categories, more posts per square inch made it easier to look through and pick what you wanted to read, the white background was nicer than black, and it showed the # of comments on a post. Just my $.02 and I'll still be going on because I enjoy the content. Looking forward to the TM review.
