Title: Too good to be true?
Post by: Logan Dewey on September 21, 2012, 07:58:59 AM
I was browsing craigslist for any new bikes like I usually do every once and a while and came across an 05 YZ125 for only $1000 and it's only 10 minutes from where I live! I noticed there is a lot of oil on the swingarm coming from what looks like the exhaust seal, other than that she looks golden, put some new plastics, graphics, exhaust, and handlebars on her and she'd be good to go! Unless there's engine work that needs to be done.. What do you guys think?

The oil on the swing arm is just from rich jetting and probably old packing in the silencer. Also, keep in mind that just because he SAYS there are low hours, does not necessarily mean he JUST rebuilt it. I find it hard to believe he rebuilt it in 09 and has only put 10 hours on it since... That's three years. Other than that it seems to be in good shape, $1,000 for what I have seen in my area is a pretty good for a price. The ones in CT go for around $1,500 or so. But, usually when people buy a used smoker, they put a new top end in anyways because there is just no way of verifying how many hours are really on it. Top ends are cheap, so it wouldn't hurt to just throw new rings and a piston in it anyways. Good luck with it if you end up buying it  :)

05+ yz125's where I'm at go for like $2000 so this must be a hell of a good deal. The only way I could buy it though is if i sell mine first.

I'd whack a deposit down and sell your current 125. But 1k for an 05 YZ125... it would go for about 3.5 k in Aus :P
