He may just be in it to keep his Number. You have to race at least once every 2 years to keep your Pro number. A lot of guys to it. I was really surprised to see RV running McGraths plate last year.
Carmichael's "4" was actually up for grabs last year, and Dean Wilson had dibs on it, but chose not to take it. It's up for grabs this year, and if Tomac wins the outdoor title, he has said he will take it. you have to get a certain number of points in PRO Nationals (I think it might be 6 or 10). If you do it in 1 race, that's fine, if it takes you 10 rounds, that's fine too. in order to go from a double digit, to a single digit, you have to be a title winner, and the number has to be avilable. so, the two people who had dibs were RV (he already has 2) and Deano, who chose to stick with 15. Deano is out this year. If JS7 wins, he will keep 7. so, lets see what the winner of the 250 class does this time around.
Dowd gets his in 2 usually. He'll run a race leading up to Southwick as a tune-up, then really go for it at Southwick. He'll get like an 18-20 and a 14-14 and it's enough to keep his "16" each year. He is on Husky this year though, so it looks like the 16 will be available.
I would be willing to bet a paycheck right now to anyone, that Dowd shows up to Southwick on a Kawasaki, not a Husky. but again, there's more to it than just racing every other year.

He could I believe. Even though the 2013 is not on the list, I think that because the 2010 is...I think it is a grey area. It was a part of the rules I didn't understand.

He is running the Huskys with his kids at the Am events because of the contingency program. But when things get serious, like retaining his number, I think he will run a Kawi out of one of his local shops.

I think you have to race every year at least once and get into the top 20 to keep your number, I don,t like the perminent number system. The old system of earning your national number was better. I give RC alot of credit showing up, sounds like he got slow. Which is weird guys like him usually don,t loose that much speed, 3 years ago he was fast as hell on his factory RM250 at REDBud. He should be about 34 now, at 16 he turned pro in 96, at 34 you can still get into shape pretty quick. Good Luck Ricky.
He is 30. We are the same age. Still 4 years younger than Windham.
Steroids are the reason there is such a big discrepancy in his speed then and now.

yes. but for loretta lynns. there was even a video showing his day at the regionals. it was kinda sad to see a very mortal RC when were used to him dominating he was beat by a bunch of spodes. i also heard he is going to work with H&H next year and theyll be running SX&MX

You've got to think about how fast that class really is though, some of those guys haul ass especially with it being their home track. I bet with a holey he would have won.

for a rider to keep his permanent number a rider must earn 25pts. it used to be one but they figured that was little to easy and not in the spirit of keeping a number. if Dowd is sponsored by Husky he will be racing husky(assuming its homo'ed)

Those types of steroids help you train with more intensity and heal quicker, they definitely dont make you faster. If he was blood doping like the road bikers do thats a little different.
What makes you guys think RC took steroids? Because he got into shape?
because he was quoted saying he felt the effects of it at the MXdN in 07, his last ride.

As far as I'm concerned,I'd attribute his success to himself-nothing else.Retirement,age and not practicing or training for a few years just might give one a tendency to gain a little weight-especially if their body type was that way in the first place.
When anyone here puts on a few years-and pounds,it's likely not because they took steroids when they were younger-that's just life.
